Cotton candy pinkAfter several discussions with the stylist, I was shocked when I colored my hair. It was pink, cotton candy pink. I had to go to a dollar store to get a cheap bottle of hair color. It actually turned out the way I had asked esalon to make for me. I was credited for the color but would have had to pay the shipping to get my money back on the other products that were useless since the color was not what I asked for. Did not work for meI wanted this to be the one but sadly it didn't work. The color match was very nice and I liked it but, the color just fell off my grey hair. Ruined my hairI was referred to try this out and thought 'how cool, build a hair color for your hair!' Wrong. I've colored my own hair COUNTLESS times and it's not that hard to do. But, i don't know WHAT went wrong, or what was actually IN these products but it completely ruined my hair. I had semi-thin hair, but after using this TWICE my hair was so thin you could see a whole run way of my white scalp when i'd part my hair. It was HORRIBLE and extremely notice able. I was even question by my family if i was going thru issue because my hair was so thin!! Once I realized it's THIS product - I had to cancel my subscription. I spend HUNDRED of dollars on tape-in extensions to feel better about myself, then after about 3/4 months I cut all my hair off to remove the damaged/extremely thin hair. Wrong colorIt could be a miscommunication but I gave a clear picture of the color I was wanting which was light pinkish brown. I had dark blond hair and the result came to a complete black, and don't know why this happened. She told to wait 2-3 weeks to apply another color. Great packaging...crappy product. The packaging is fantastic but when it comes to hair care it's what's inside that counts. The dye, shampoo, and conditioner all suck. After the first time using it a ton of my hair fell out. I chalked it up to diet changes at the time but the dye I'm sure didn't help. It was impossible to wash out and left my hair feeling gross and dry. I've given feedback and kept my subscription going hoping for improvement but nothing ever changed. Gorgeous presentation, BUT the smell! :(It all came in such a beautifully and personally prepared and perfect package. Absolutely blown away by the whole process; the order, the personal colourist, the precise and very carefully color mixture, the charts, direction, etc....but when I opened the bottles and started to make the mix, the smell was beyond anything I had ever encountered. The ammonia, yikes. Not good, not healthy. When I wrote the E alone Care Team Member was kind enough to quickly respond with: "The odor is caused by an ingredient in your permanent color called ammonium hydroxide, which is a solution of ammonia in water. It allows your hair follicles to totally absorb the dye, so you can fully penetrate your hair with color and get total coverage that’s long lasting. While it has a strong smell, we believe it is a safer and a much more effective choice than other color substitutes out there used by other color companies. When I color my hair, I like to apply it in a well-ventilated room with windows or doors open to ventilate the area. I find it really helps with the strong smell." This was information from the e salon help line. I could feel and taste the smell on my tongue, it was so extreme. I am so bummed out for this. Color to darkThe color did not work for me. It was to dark. Then I got a perm and that destroyed my hair and pulled all the dark color out . That was a good thing. Inconsistent, messyI was recommended this product my a family member and I thought it would be a great way to color my grey at home and save a trip to the salon. Although the instructions are straight forward and it comes with everything, I found it messy and ruined my shower curtain. I also found the color to be very inconsistent even though I followed instructions. Does not cover greyI went to go and cancel my order because I realized this product was not covering my gray more than a boxed drugstore product. The representative talked me into getting one more month, for free which I did. She said that they would make it so my color would last longer but it did not. Darker than expectedI think for the desired look I was/am trying to achieve, I need to visit an actual salon to have my hair lightened and coloured properly. This was way too BROWN for my liking. Depositing colour doesn't LIFT-- so if you're a brunette wanting to go red-- no.... just no.... go to a salon! Didn't workI've dyed my hair red many times, a lot of different colors over the years, and this was the first time I had used dye in over a year and it did not work. I ordered a light red color for my medium brown hair and my hair ended up kind of a ruddy an darker brown tint. The roots were a much brighter red for about a week and then it faded. I'm not really sure why it didn't work for me. Also I got the volume shampoo and conditioner bottles and they make my head itch so that made the experience worse lol. Not enoughI like the color and all, but I didn't even get enough for half of my head. I answered on my hair quiz that I had thick and long hair too. Great packaging, great instructions, poor follow up supportI received my first shipment from esalon and after following the instructions, the color I got was not a good fit for me at all. While I've been trying to get the next shipment updated to a new color, I am receiving canned email responses that indicate to me that my next color update is definitely not being "tailored to me." For example, I received a generic canned email about doing a strand test after I had sent an image showing how the color looked on me (and to show I'd been using the tinted rinse and that it hadn't worked that well). Do not sign upI do not like any of the color and I always had long hair and they don't sent enough color also I have been trying for 5 months to cancel my account and the don't give you that Option. I have been skipping the order every month and the still have billed me and not sent the stuff. I have called them and no answer about 10 time also email them 10 time a month no one emailed me back I have tried to delete my credit card information and my information. But it will not let me unless I put another card I and and they're not giving you a choice once you sign up for it you get one on mackley every month they take it out of your card But whether you get in and not they donot tell you all this when you sign up I would not recommend this place to my worse enemy it does not cover the Gray it does not work well is cheaper to go to a salon at least I know it's gonna work or to go to the store and buy the best brand they have because even buying 2 boxes for long hair it cheaper and works better and when you want to change the color you can with out any problem. I told them about 3 time I want to change my color and they do nothing like I never sent any thing about it I never been able to use it and it cover my gray for more than a week. Terrible Grey coverage.I ordered my color at the end of August. I ended up holding on to the box for another month because I was traveling and frankly a little scared to use home box color. I was worried about the color that the stylist chose because it was dark brown on dark brown. Not very dimensional if you ask me. But I went for it. At the end of September I used the color kit. And it was exactly what I feared. Flat, way to dark color. Like I had been cheap box dying my hair for years. Terrible. But I was stuck. But then I noticed a couple of days later that the color looked a little less intense and I though well maybe it was just the color settling of something. Fast forward we are now at the end of October and my gray coverage is GONE! I have gray hairs becoming uncovered. My highlights from my salon job are showing. This product is worthless. I’m super disappointed. I could have bought cheap Box dye at the grocery and had better results for less money. Waste of money. The product wasn’t tailored to me. Just one dimensional cheap color. Did not cover greysI really wanted to like the service for its customizability and ease of use, however after following the directions carefully and specifically focusing on my greys, my grey hairs are still grey. Also even after using the shampoo and conditioner, my hair still smells strongly of ammonia which is an absolute headache and gives me one too. couldn't be worseI ordered dark ash blonde specifying I don't want ANY brassiness not a hint.. my hair turned out completely red. Good I ordered a dark blonde spray and had Mixed Feelings blonde toning drops on hand, so was able to cover it up. The smell of the color mix is stronger than any box color, there should be a big warning on the bottle. I emailed the "colorist" before my second order was due, sent them a picture, asked if they can fix it.. no response whatsoever, nada.. Of course I cancelled the plan. I'm still receiving emails to restart the plan, get free shipping.. Colour didn't takePut on my roots only (as instructed by the package), left on a full 30 minutes as instructed. Didn't cover the gray at all. I asked for an ash blonde and it just didn't take. The staff is very helpful but I ended up going to a beauty supply store close to me and purchased what I needed and it did the trick. It was a bit difficult to navigate the process to cancel this plan as most of these online sites are. I do have difficult hair as it pulls a lot of red tones so it's not really e salons fault it is tough to do just from a picture. color isn't strong enoughI love the concept of customized do-it-yourself hair dye. However, both times I've used eSalon's product, the color has not turned out right: The result was just a slightly augmented version of my previous hair color, rather than the dramatic transformation I was looking for. What I've come to think is that the dye just isn't strong enough to provide solid coverage. Here's an example: I recently got the Medium Brown Mahogany Pearl color and applied it to my dark blonde hair. The result was a plain light brown with orangey undertones. The mahogany tone and the dark shade were pretty much lost on my blonde hair. It's almost as if I can see my blonde hair showing through the dye! changed color - bleached out my hairI had been a member since 2016. This last color - they totally changed my formula with no warning. Instead of a copper color which is what it had always been, I now have bleach blond roots that do not match my hair. No, I did not do a color test bc it had always been the same. The products have changed. I'm frantically trying to get to a hair salon to have it fixed! OmgThis product gave me hives. They started out on my ears then covered my whole body. I even had the hives in my eyes. Took 2 weeks before they started to get better. I itched so 👎 bad. I was going out of my mind itching. Nothing helped. Well, alcohol helped me a bit. I have scars from the hives...😒. Wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy If you have even a slight allergic reaction to hair dye. Don't use this. I do love the color and the coverage. Worst hair color I ever usedI have been coloring my hair for over 30 years with Loreal products and for some dumb reason, decided to give this a chance. What a mistake. Instead of my hair being light auburn, it is dark brown with barely a hint of red. The gray coverage was not good either. The red color, only took to my roots....The rest of my hair is total Black...very disappointing! At this point I'll have to cancel my account & get my hair done by the professionals. Loved the colour....butAbsolutely love the colour. A real ash brown, without any red tones. However, it doesn't last long. It fades very quickly. I have followed further instructions from my colourist, but it hasn't got staying power. The colour bleeds badly with every wash. I'm experienced in colouring my hair, as I have done so since I was 17 years old (I'm now 58). Usually I do have very good results at home. My roots very quickly become much lighter; within 2 weeks! Great Color, Horrible Build UpI love the golden color produced from this company. However, this product leaves HORRIBLE build up in my hair. It does not wash out easily. Nothing what I was expectingI had to take the initial test twice because it didn’t take the first time. With the first test I pick a red hue ( like I always do). The second time I thought about it and decided I would try something different and opt for a purple hue. I wasn’t sure which color I was going to get because I didn’t know how to check it. Once I received it and color my hair I was disappointed. The roots had a red tint the ends came out dark brown with MAYBE a hint of purple undertone. Too thickThe last shipment and this one I was unable to get the hair color out of the bottle through the normal tip. It was hard last time and almost impossible this time. Didn’t cover grays at allI’ve used box color from cvs that has covered my grays better than this has. The color itself isn’t too bad, but the lack of coverage is very disappointing. I don’t have a ton of gray, but absolutely none of it was colored and I left the solution on for the recommended 45 minutes. Low qualityDamaged my hair, color didn't last. My stylist did not listen to me on the color customization I wanted originally. The redo that she sent me was a semi perm and did little to adjust the color, and additionally having to dye my hair twice in a few weeks damaged it terribly. Horrible .. EDIT 10/17: Will give it one more tryAbsolutely did not like the formula or the color it gave me. No purple shows up, it turned my hair almost black! I cancelled my membership but I was charged for and sent 2 more packages. A complete waste Edit 10/17/19: Desiree from esalon reached out to me after receiving this review. EhhhhI was excited to try this, and I really do like the shade. However I don't think this is the best dye. I followed the instructions. I was going maybe one shade darker and a little warmer than my current hair color. The custom instructions said to do basically a root touch up. Which I did. Unfortunately, as I suspected it might, by following them I ended up with hair darker at the root and lighter at the ends. It also did not fully color areas in my lengths. It's okay because it just looks highlighted, but I really was going for full coverage here. I also found that the dye stings a bit. I also think it has made my hair a little more oily.
