Good idea poor executionIt sounds great and I used 2 shipments to make sure I gave them a fair chance. My main request was to avoid any red highlights and wanted more ash. Never againHonestly open minded and wanted this to work. The packaging is classy. I think though I was duped into buying add ons not necessary. The color was spot on but I've never felt my hair so dry/brittle/needing to be cut. This product is not as good as box color top shelf at the drug store. terribleMy kids described my hair as "ombre" The second bottle color did not match the first and it was awful. The root color was too dark and violet. What is that oily waxy residue?!!My hair is having trouble taking color. The roots take color great, but the bottom 3 or 4 inches do not want to hold color. I was hoping this product would be different. Well no such luck. The color on the roots and everywhere looked great at first, but there was this horrible waxy oily residue. I had rinsed and rinsed and rinsed and then used the shampoo provided and then rinsed some more. I had to use my own color shampoo to finally get the oily residue out of hair. It's really gross. I have never had that problem before with all the times I have colored my own hair or have had it professionally colored. Poor qualityI experienced a weird waxy build up when trying to rinse the color out. This happened the last two if not three times. TerribleThey decided to send different color than I ordered.... then, putting color on, smell was worst I've ever experienced. Wanted ash blonde got orange insteadI have some regrets about using this hair color. Mainly that I didn't follow my gut on a few decisions. I actually knew what I needed--a toner to correct brassy yellow highlights--but I decided to order this instead, because I wasn't confident about my DIY color/toner skills. The confusing response I got initially from the consultant made me want to cancel my order but I went ahead with it. That was a mistake. Another mistake was not doing a strand test. When I saw 15v developer I should have known that it wasn't going to work for me. My hair is stubborn and I don't think anything less than 20v will work on it. A strand test would have at least proved that without ruining all my hair, because the color is pretty ugly right now. At least my hair isn't breaking or anything but my scalp feels a little sensitive still. I'm pretty sure I could have gotten better results from a box color. Also disappointed that I second-guessed myself and fell for the slick marketing and a gimmicky product. Lesson learned: This product is just as risky as buying a box dye off the shelf. You can send photos and they can give you advice but they can't guarantee you'll get good results, just like any other color that comes out of a box. So it's a about $9 risk versus a $20+ risk. Either way if you mess it up you'll still end up at a salon paying $$$ for someone to fix it. Custom color - AuburnI want to let you know that I have given y'all several attempts at getting my hair color right, but this last time was the absolute worst. My hair is now orange, not Auburn, and is so damaged that my hair has been falling out by the handful daily. I can't color it again any time soon. It's going to take several conditioning treatments if I can even get it healthy again. My hair is very long and very damaged now. eSalon Colors does not work for African American Hair!I used the color kit, and it did not work on my hair. After I used there kit my hair came out the same as before I used the kit. I contacted customer service, they went to talk to the colorist Leianna H. and she is very inexperienced with hair coloring for a person that is post to be a licensed cosmetologist. Leianna H. said that the hair color would not work on my hair. The best question is. Why would you send a customer a color kit if you knew that it would not work? Girls.. save yourself I would not recommend the color kits. The only positive thing that I would say is that there shampoo is pretty good. Honestly thats about it. 1st orderI tried the color. 1st it broke my scalp out with some type of sores. I must have been allergic to something in the hair dye!? . . . I DO NOT, NOR DID I WANT ANOTHER SHIPMENT SENT TO ME! Completely DisappointedI had such high hopes for eSalon. I am more frustrated with my hair after using their products. I actually cried because I was so disappointed. I wanted to color my hair a dark chocolate brown. But it looks nearly the same as when I started. I followed the directions. I did what I was told to do. I want my money back. Not worth the time, tears, or disappointment. Though I used the shampoo and conditioner in my hair, when I got out of the shower there was dye still at my roots. I had to go back in & literally scrub my hair. I have curly hair so this caused a lot of frizz. Just overall so sad this didn't work for me. Never againI was so excited to try a new hair color. Issue was not with kit but with the residue left behind. My hair is gummy and has a thick paste residue. I've washed my hair multiple times and it is not coming out. To top it off it didn't cover my gray at all. And my hair feels like straw. And yep followed instructions exactly. Wrong ColorI decided to give esalon a try due to their advertisement of custom just right color. I like to color my hair with chestnut undertones & loathe, for myself personally, red undertones or highlights of any kind. I conveyed this on my preferences and even detailed a note to that effect and after I dyed my hair, it was filled with ugly red undertones. Now I have to keep dying over this hideous mess until it clears. Hopefully by December. I have since had my hair highlighted and now need a light ash brown color. I hope the next formula works better. Disappointed....This is the third time I've colored my hair with the eSalon product and I still am not even close to the color I wanted. I've always had blonde hair whether it be natural, highlighted, or colored. However, the color from eSalon is more red than blonde. They say they've adjusted the color for me each time but it turns out the same each time. I like the product because it is easy to do but I'm very frustrated that I cannot get the color I want. Not enough red.I will start by saying that I do love the shampoo and conditioner that comes with the dye!! However, this last order that I received has turned out to be a bit of a disappointment for me. My hair color is more brown than I like. The first kit that I received had the "top coat?" And that seemed to make my hair a brighter red. That is more along the color that I am looking for. Good color but be carefulI loved my color but soon after using this my hair began to fall out. I thought it was other things and tried to remedy it. But it has continued and nothing seems to help. Matte Ash Brown = REDthe color was standard do at home hair color. I was pleasantly surprised that I didnt need both entire bottles as I usually use two packages of color because I have a LOT of hair. however, the color was not at all as expected. I dont know if the browns have lightener in them or what, but I was trying to go slightly darker and ashier than my normal hair color and instead went slightly lighter and with very red undertones. There's nothing "ash" about this color! Very disappointing. The dye itself was also very drying for my hair and there wasn't nearly enough conditioner in the little packet to re-moisturize, so I ended up having to do a deep conditioning mask to re-moisturize my hair and make it back to normal. 0 of 0 people found this review helpful. It's a two person job / go to a professionalI ordered a color slightly redder than what I was originally and I ended up with red roots and dark brown lengths it was a mess and it being a holiday weekend I had to go buy another color to cover it. I guess if you have someone to help you "paint" your roots it may work better. But I have shoulder length hair and a lot of it so doing just my roots and seeing that the back was properly covered was impossible. And I did follow the directions exactly and I did contact them about the horrible turnout they responded within a day, but it being a weekend I had places to be and couldn't wait for their reponse and then them telling me they'd needed pictures I am assuming so they could send me a fix for the issue, like I said I wasn't going to walk around looking like a skunk so a trip to Rite Aid was all I could do to fix it. I am extremely disappointed as I've seen so many youtubers rave about this product but then again they are sponsored, and if they'd had a similar issue to mine they could have had it fixed even professionally and gone on with their video saying how amazing it is. Color started out great, then faded. Customer support faded, tooI was really nervous at first, being that I was new at coloring my hair and I was going from blonde to mahogany. The resulting color was stunning! The instructions were spot on (follow them to the tee and you won't be disappointed!) and easy to follow. Unfortunately, by the end of 2 weeks, the ends of my hair (a chin length bob) had begun to fade. By the end of 6 weeks (the time I'd chosen between colorings) my stunning mahogany on my ends and the middle had gone to a lifeless medium brown. OK, so I expected the recoloring to fix this. After following the instructions given in my first recoloring, my faded ends remained, and were even more visible now in that my roots had been revived to the beautiful mahogany. I contacted customer service, who asked me to send pictures, which I did. I immediately received an email confirming receipt of my pictures, saying someone would be "reformulating my color". Huh? A big dissapointmentNot what i expected. Loved my previous hair colors but wow two toned hair?? Did directions as was to the very last word. The roots look are a bit lighter than the ends and I followed the directions to the T. I really would have liked my first time to have been more positive. I also got worried as I shampooed it as it was so dry and sticky, but once I put in the conditioner it got soft and nice. As it was developing I was a bit worried as it was a bit dark, but I had hoped it would lighted up once it dried, but it hasn't. Instead of light brown maybe it should have been dark blonde? Like color, but feeling sticky!So I've applied color (with a brush), followed the instructions to the letter, washed and conditioned- and I'm a STICKY MESS. I can't even run a comb through my tangled mess of hair. Now, from what I can see in the spots that are not matted down, the color seems to be exactly what I asked for. Unfortunately though, I don't think I'll be ordering from eSalon again, as I will be spending my Saturday night trying to figure out how to return my hair to a normal texture. *update: after googling solutions (there were many posted, as this apparently happens more often than I thought) olive oil ended up being my saving grace!! Great gray coverage but...The color covered gray hair very well but 1 bottle of color, shampoo and conditioner not enough for hair length. Hair shiny and soft but there was no evidence of the purple color I selected. Grey hair coverage not goodI ordered permanent colour to have sufficient coverage for my grey hair. The colour was fine initially; my hair was also soft and silky. After 3 weeks however, all my grey hairs (entire shaft) are noticeable. I have always had my hair coloured in a salon using permanent tint and my grey hairs did not show after. Super Oily!!!I followed all the directions, put the first bottle on the roots and then the second on the ends. My daughter used what was left from the first bottle to do a pikaboo in the underneath of he hair. Both of our hair was super grease. you could squeeze the oil out on your hand when my hair was dry! I used your shampoo plus mine because yours was not enough. I had to wash my hair 5 times to get the oil out of my hair. On the upside it did color my hair and the gray roots.
