Not the color I wantedThe kit was nice and well organized , easy to use but not the color I wanted. I chose darkest dark brown but wanted a rich tone. I got a color that’s much lighter then I wanted, it’s so red ! I wanted rich but this is extreme. I hope the 100% guarantee is a real thing cause I’m not happy. I’ve been holding off dying my hair and thought I’d spend extra And get Esalon but I’d probably have been happier with a superstore box dye. Copper undertones instead of light brown to dark blondeMy hair naturally has golden undertones with a bit of copper mixed in and I like that, but the way things went, I lost all the golden undertones to reddish copper and got no lightening of my hair. I am deeply disappointed and don't like giving reviews but after crying about the end result, I didn't feel like I had any choice. Cancel all ordersNot happy at all. The color did not take correctly. Hair is all kinds of shades and my natural light brown hair with a little gray, did not color at all. The highlights in my hair pick up some color although not full coverage. My hair is a mess. I followed instructions to a tee. Roots didn't match endsBeautiful packaging and excellent instructions and very helpful customer service but still not convinced as I haven't managed to get a colour I'm happy with. I have received 3 colours to date... first was too dark, next was red (no clue why... none of my feedback suggested I wanted red), latest colour seems like it will be nice but when applied the roots did not match the ends ( although it included both roots and ends colours) -- I'm going to give this one more try with my next colour and then decide if its worth continuing 0 of 0 people found this review helpful. Not what I was looking for, Highly disappointedFirst things first, I have colored my own hair dozens of time is the past so I am confident in my ability to make sure every thing is fully saturated. I have natural red hair which in and of itself is difficult to color, so I chose to go much darker than my natural color. The color I attempted to achieve was supposed to be dark brown and have violet highlights in the sunlight. I got the dark brown, mostly! There are some areas where there is no difference from before I dyed. The most noticeable is on the top and the front. I am absolutely certain I fully saturated that area as it is the easiest part to reach. I have also noticed there is still a lot of red throughout the length. I am getting used to the color differences and I will admit that the red coming through doesn't look absolutely terrible. Now as far as the violet color, totally absent! There is absolutely no violet or purple in my color at all. I first noticed the absence of violet the day I colored and I figured it is a new color and it may take a couple days to really be able to see it. Well 3 days and 3 washings later I still have no violet, but I do have a head chuck full of dark brown (almost black) and auburn hair. 0 of 0 people found this review helpful. Did you? |

The fading is for realI really hoped that esalon would have worked out for me. I have metastatic breast cancer and because of the pandemic this was such a convenient way to get hair dye. The color was great but only for about a week. At first I thought that maybe it was because it was virgin hair (this was my first dye job post chemo), but after 3 kits the color still faded despite me using their tint rinse and color safe shampoo. I’d dye it and have the most beautiful chestnut brown hair and after a few washes I looked like Donald Trump. Horrible. Blah. Such a bummer. So I’m back to going to Sally’s and mixing my own color. Worst smell I have ever had with hair color, almost sent me to the hospital.Not only was the color not as pictured, but the smell was so bad it almost sent me to the hospital. I have MCS disorder and have never used a hair color that was this bad. My skin was burning, I couldn't breathe, the fumes burned my eyes. I was in a well ventilated place and even went outside, it didn't help. I canceld my second shipment, it magically shipped anyway and I canceled a second time after the second box shipped. Wrong colour again.I have now tried eSalon three times and every time there’s been a problem with the colour not covering my greys, fading or red tones which I absolutely do not want. I thought I’d be third time lucky but no, my hair was so red and way darker than it should have been. I’m pretty upset with really bad hair and scabs all through my scalp. Ruined rug and shower curtain.Thought color was o.k. Didn't get complete grey coverage. But when I rinsed my hair in the shower the dye splattered onto my yellow gingham shower curtain and it ran down onto the matching rug. I just moved and have had them less than 4 weeks. Both are ruined. I have tried every stain remover I can find. Turned my hair orangeThis was my second time trying esalon's custom color but I did not get good results. The first time turned my hair a darker slightly orange shade, so I waited at least 8 weeks to try for the second time. I applied only to my roots and followed the instructions exactly, but this turned my roots bright orange even though I had specifically requested that I wanted to avoid that. Nice color but not great grey coverageThe first time I used this color it did not cover my grey. When I cancelled, eSalon offered to change the color specifically for my grey and send me a free color. The second time was not different. Then I have not heard from them in about 4 months after I sent another email. I have cancelled my orders. Lovely colour but it was to darkThe whole experience was very nice. The delivery came promptly with lovely personalised box. The colour was nice but was to dark and not enough for my shoulder length hair. I specifically requested one tone darker and got 2. Also the blonde blend used turned my hair with orange undertone. Its been 2 weeks since colour and it has washed a bit to quickly showing my grey hairs. But to be fair I do have stubborn greys. I was blonde 8.3 and went down to 6. ConfusingHaving to color my hair in two parts was a bit intimidating. I followed the directions to the T but not sure if, one, I followed it correctly because the color came out not like I was expecting, OR two, the custom color set was just not for me to begin with. The purple stuff at the end before taking a shower was not easy to mix at all and I felt I needed to do it in a certain time so I felt a little anxious! Then to mix it in my hair was not easy either. It felt really thick and I know I probably didn't leave it in there the amount of time it said. At least I didn't ruin my hair. The color that I really wanted was a dark chocolate all over look. AverageGreat instruction packaging and over all friendly to use set up. However for my type of hair and also probably due to the fact it is not virgin hair I did not feel a great difference in color quality in comparison to box die. Hair become very damaged and brittle within a couple of weeks. As I have semi course curly hair. I ensure to give my hair all the extra TLC like it’s my second job and this has absolutely hindered any of my usual repair techniques (weekly masks less frequent washing gentle shampoo conditioner protein treatment as well as hot oil treatments monthly). I was surprised to receive a second box and unless I can find a friend who is adventurous enough to try it- I will not be putting it to use mostly likely until my next breakup. Just okayI was super excited about a custom color little did I know it wasn't what I had hoped for. The process was cool with the colorist and what not. The color I wanted was a mix between light brown and medium brown with no red or brassy color. So thick it would not come out of the bottleExtremely disappointed with this. This was my 2nd shipment of this color, and this time it was super thick. It would not come out of the bottle! Had to take the top off to apply it. So thick it did not cover my head. My hair got so tangled afterwards that it took me hours to comb out the knots. Not satisfiedHi I am sorry but, I loved you product the way it made my hair feel was great but there wasn’t enough to cover my head so I ended up patchy and it didn’t change my hair color at all, you couldn’t tell I colored it. And I wanted more brown than red and it was a brighter red than I wanted so I had to go by store dye because I was going to a party and all you could see was grey. Too redI liked the overall coverage and the degree of darkness but it was way too much of a red tint for me. I would prefer that it be more my natural dark brown than red. I had been pretty bleached out from the sun over the summer so I understand not going too dark too fast, but I feel that the more natural lighter tones to my hair are dark caramels and chocolate tones, not the red auburn. Problens with MixturesColor was great. Had an awful time with air in the bottles of the two color mixtures. The cream solutions both had air bubbles in them. This caused mixing issues. Dark brown or black?I usually if not ALWAYS have an AMAZING experience and I will continue to recommend people to Esalon.... BUT I did ask to go back to dark brown. I know this, my hair is black. It is not dark brown. Like it look almost jet black! I have to leave it in because my next alternative is to go get it professionally stripped out. My hair would be so fried if I did that. So I'll leave it but I'm so disappointed! If I wanted black hair I would have asked for black. No thanksWanting to try this during Covid I was sorely disappointed. I asked to speak with a colorist before ordering and was told I had to place an order first. Ok. After placing my order with the exact color levels my stylist uses with the exact ratio and submitting a photo I reached out to a colorist. I was assured there would be no problem. I was notified of my color formulation and the ratio was off with too much brown. I called again. I have red hair and they were sending me 75% brown and 25% red. The colorist I spoke with exclaimed, "oh, you want it more red". Did anyone look at my pic or read my requests? I tried the color anyway as I was desperate. Thank God I only colored a small test piece. Mud brown with no gray coverage. My hair would have been ruined with no way to get to my salon and have color correction, let alone the damage done to my hair. I made another call. Gray rootsI applied the color as per instructions. It looked good I was so happy to color my gray roots .... but after just two washings the color washed out !!! My roots were a color I couldn’t tell you what it was . This was the second time this happened. No saturationI'm actually cancelling my order because I've tried it twice now with adjusting the color, and I still wash my hair one time, and the color is gone. I'm very dissatisfied. I think I would do better with using Sally's or Amazon and picking my own hair color. I'm very very dissatisfied. Too DarkI wanted to cover the gray root on the color that I had. I selected the correct colors. Changes were made based on a very, very, very, old photo that was still in the system. Please brighten up my look to match the current pictures I've sent.
