I requested a dark brunette with the strength to cover some light gray areas while trying to keep my color as close to my natural shade as possible. I used the product 3 times. The gray coverage was great but after the first coloring my hair was a brassier/warmer than I wanted. I gave the feedback to my colorist who attempted to correct in my 2nd order. I couldn't tell any difference in the color so I switched to Madison Reed to try their product. I was not impressed with their coverage, which unlike eSalon, did not cover my gray at all.
My only complaint on eSalon was that I felt like there was a lot of heavy residue after washing out the color due to the gel formula. The 2nd time I did it, I followed the instructions exactly and the step of adding water to the remaining formula and applying and lathering through the hair before rinsing the color out made a big difference. Not perfect but much, much better. And considering the coverage I get with this product, worth the extra step.
Now if I can just get my color right, I would be very happy with the product and service. I'm trying again and asking for the Iced Latte effect to remove all/more of the warmth. I may have unrealistic expectations in this regard!
I love the color but had trouble washing it out. Hair still feels a little gummy in a couple places. I washed it three times and decided that was enough. My normal hair is dark blonde and I got light blonde to touch up roots. The color is perfect but wonder why it is so hard to wash out?
The color is even and lasts longer than Revlon, or L'Oreal, but the conditioner and shampoo are seriously lacking. I am on the monthly plan and it is nice to just receive it and not go to the store.
I liked the set so much and that they sent a second color for my ends. I think the root color should have been on it longer. My roots are already lighter than the rest so I’ll have to color sooner than I would normally as my blonde hair grows out. I like the direction of the formula though I think I’d like it a bit deeper than it turned out.
Just tried this hair dye for the first time, packaging is lovely and has a very professional feel. Very happy with the results, it's the colour i wanted and looks like it's been done at a salon. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is the dye was very difficult to rinse out, it stuck to my hair even after a few shampoos. It left a residual coating on my hair leaving it feeling greasy after I'd straightened it.
I've got to find some way of splitting my product in half. There was enough for two applications for my short pixie. I would like it to be a little darker and a little more towards the darker end of red than copper, but overall had great coverage and was very easy to apply.
I love the color and it lasts longer than Prefference but I ended up with the ends being a lot lighter than the roots. I will try to bring the root color all the way to the ends and see how that works this time.
I absolutely loved the dark mahogany color that was sent. I did initially have a problem with the color leaving a waxy like residue on my hair, but that was soon rectified by washing again with a mild shampoo. This unfortunately removed some, but not most of the red top gloss, but the color is still good after a few weeks. I am now looking forward to my next delivery where I have asked for more red in the root application to counteract this.
You have made the opening of the color bottles larger than they were in the past. I have found now that the larger opening is a problem when pouring into the plastic developer bottle. Which has a small opening. The past 2 times I've mixed these the permanent color has spilled over onto my counter. Not sure why you changed that. Also the shampoo and conditioner packets are much harder to open in the new design.
I followed the instructions step by step and asked for the light Ash Blonde. It didn't come out as light as I wanted it and turned out quite dark.
However I still really liked the colour. It is basically my natural hair colour that I haven't seen in years! Not a block colour either looks like I have highlights and low lights.
Just a shame that it wasn't exactly the right colour...
Great coloring product still, but the shampoo packet is a pain in the shower

The packet doesn’t tear right; the hole wasn’t big enough to extrude the shampoo out. I didn’t want to leave the shower dripping wet to find scissors either. Needless to say, I kept the water running longer than I should while I struggled to re-tear the packaging. (Ditto the conditioner.)
Love the product but very upset with price of orders!

Love the product but very upset with price of orders! I never requested the Color Kiss added to my orders. I do not use them and am now stuck with 3 of these at an unbelievable cost of $12 each. I am now $36 in the hole and would like to send them back with free shipping as I never requested these. I actually still have the free sample sent way before. This happened before and I had to cancel the touch-ups. I don't know how they got re-added to my account but I am very upset they did. I rarely check e-mails anymore and somehow missed this but I must cancel any future orders as I can only afford the store bought from now on. Thank you for the great color though.

My first color turned out very ashy on me. My colorist mixed a dark blonde and golden blonde, but it turned grey blonde, and not in a good way. I have tan skin, so anything too dark makes me monotone. I loved the personalization and all the extras my kit came with, so I am giving my next shipment a try.
Update: 2 years later, this is cheaper than going to the salon or beauty store. If you're specific, your colorist will match as much as possible, just pay attention to the tones they mix together. The instructions are easy to follow and it lasts for a while. I'm a loyal customer for sure.
But gave it 4 stars due to ease of ordering and great customer service. The color was very easy to apply and smells pretty good... it looked very natural when first applied which is unusual for my fine hair...which usually sucks in color and comes out too dark. The bad part is the color did not cover gray roots very well and does not last very long. (However, truth be told, I have always had a problem with color lasting...very porous hair, which doesn’t seem to hold color!) will definitely try again

I loved the color, it did not last as long as I expected. None the less the color was great and does last longer compared to box products.
This has been my first time to attempt to color at home. To be honest, I am very clumsy, so I did not have much faith in my efforts, but my colorist's price tag for color+tip in the rural area is $80-90, and it is costly considering that I need to visit her every month. Anyway, I tried it and followed the instructions precisely. It was messy and due to my long hair very inconvenient. The product itself is great though, the color is fabulous (I just colored, so I don't know how long it will last). The only thing is, my roots did not take very well, it was a bummer. I think I will try to do the front of my head first, and the back after. So I will give it another chance. The color itself is fantastic, very rich, so five stars! Also, I like how fancy it is packed and personalized :)
I like the convenience of receiving my hair color in the mail, I don't have to bother to going to the store. Also, it does cover up the gray very good. The only down fall is that it can be sometimes be hard to put in on by yourself especially since I have a lot of hair and it can get messing.
I love the color that I have now but unfortunately it fades after 3 weeks. I wish it would last longer not thrilled on the idea of having to redye my hair every 6 weeks. I have fragile thin, fine hair.
My natural hair color is a medium auburn that has always been coppery in sunlight. I tried various color combinations to keep it as my hair darkened and greyed with the years. I know that with hair color, red shades tend to fade fast. This is the first product that doesn't do that. I can actually go for up to 3 months with e-salon color, with such a gradual change of color that the new hair growth is barely noticed.
I like the color itself with this product but i do not like the way my hair feels afterwards. No matter how much rinsing i do, my hair feels like it has glue in it for the first couple washes.
I love the color and the price, but the smell of the formula is really overwhelming... and it’s super hard to wash out of my mid-back-length hair. Taking a break from esalon to try a similar service that is supposed to be ammonia-free.
However the bottles was closed so tight I could not get them open with my hands . I had pry open the bottles with a steak knife to get open which could of been dangerous. Otherwise my color is awesome. Received a lot of compliments
I love the color but I had an awful time trying to get the cap off of the color bottle. My daughter couldn't get it off either. We ended up having to poke a hole in the bottle with a paring knife, which the tip broke off of. Is there a way not to tighten them so tight???
The first color I got scared me it was way too orange for my tastes. I called them up they listened and took notes they sent me out a new color (with violet undertones) and I put it on and I’m in love! Thanks for listening and for the red! Redheads have more fun!
I love the colour but found it difficult to apply on my own. I followed the instructions exactly but where the grey is mostly (top and front) did not take as dark as the back and ends.
Color ended up being darker than original hair color but it went on easily and worked out well since it’s a Demi wash so you won’t notice the new growth. I ended up liking the darker shade.
While I love the rich color this product provides I am weary about the mess and how badly this product stains your skin. I am not very coordinated and always wind up with color stains all over.
I love how I was sent two bottles that would make sure my roots were the same color as my ends. I love the color and the even coverage. It just didn’t cover all my grey hairs.
I love that my hair does not feel dried out after coloring. This a truly a salon quality product for less $$ then you would spend at the salon. My only compliant is that my grays don’t stay colored for as long as I would like, but this could just be because my hair is so dark.
Changed from a darker brown. I like the color a lot I understand how the grey coverage is less effective however it is a better trade off for the lighter hue.
Way too messy. I used a bowl because in the past the bottle would be too drippy. The brush worked better, however, when the last step was applied, the shower was a mess (with this color, it resembled a horror movie scene). I had to clean the bathroom afterward (not convenient!😠). I’m going back to the salon. I wish I could buy the color and pay someone with a salon sink to color my hair for me.
I love the color and that it lasts for several weeks. The downside is the length of my hair changed quite a bit from my initial sign up and I didn’t seem to have enough color this last time.
So I order the highlights and got the kit, with I more of the brown color, I want to give up on that dark brown color, so again am getting another shipment of brown, after I already ordered my highlights, so I haven't used it yet, I seen the video, so why do I need more brown, after highlights, I felt that there is too many departments that is confusing my orders. Please hold my order,will try the highlights and go from there ok. Thank you
Seriously. Love the color and the results, but the chemical odor and vapor almost triggers an asthma attack. Even in a well-ventilated space, it borders on noxious. Lucky for eSalon, I haven’t found anything comparable that’s less stinky.
The way the color covers my gray is perfect. I need to work on the color selection as the color has more copper than I like, but other than that it is perfect!
Having grey coverage issues. the color remains on the red side for the grey while darkening the area around where color is applied. I do not go over all of hair to avoid this.
I have gray hair in the front area and temples. It only last a week then I have to wait till my next order to reapply color. I prefer not to over process my hair. I like the color suggestion. I am open to all color selection. Not sure if I can go light also my hair is now more thick. Better yet extra naturally/kinky. Pls help
Not a deal breaker because I love the lasting color and the beautiful custom packaging but really I spend a lot of time in the shower to get the color out and be able to see my scalp! That's the only thing that's a little frustrating. Otherwise beautiful luscious and rich color and that's what matters right? 🙂
The first time I ordered the color was definetly not a match. They sent me a replacement for free plus an additional bottle of color. This color was a better match. The only complaint is I wish they had sent two boxes of gloves (one for this time and one for the next time). Other than that it’s a great product!
I am so pleased with eSalon. I have tried so many at home hair dye, and the color is either not what you want, hard to cover grays, color doesn't last as long as it claims. Hair feels brittle and damaged. I used to have to color every 4 weeks almost. And just never happy with outcome.
I tried eSalon for the first time and i could not believe the outcome! The color was exactly what i wanted, it has lasted over 6 weeks now, it covered all my hair. The best part was my hair felt healthy after, not dry. And there was no lingering odor from the dye. I will continue to use this product! So very happy.
I love how the process doesn't damage my hair. My hair feels soft when done. The only issue I have is that reds must be done more frequently because they fade faster than any other shade.
So this is my 3rd time coloring with Esalon, the color was better this time, not too dark but I’ve noticed that the last time and this time the products have made my hair extremely greasy. Especially at the crown. Is this normal? I haven’t changed any of my other hair products.
With other do it yourself Color, is would have to leave it on an hour and the grey still showed. This product completely covered it with a fraction of the time
I have been trying to get the right color. I have changed it several times.The colorist has tried to do as I ask but when my hair is in the sun it looks very red, which I do not like.

I love your product. Have used it for about 2 years now. You recently changed the bottle that the color concentrate ships in. It is very hard to open. There is no hand grips on the bottle lid and no barrier between the concentrate and the lid. This allows for the concentrate to leak out some and seals the lid on tighter. However, it also makes it almost impossible to get off. The last two times I have received my order. My husband has had to use pliers to open the bottle for me. This has caused the lid to break. He now knows to be careful not to spill any so as not to stain things. The old bottle at least had a barrier to help prevent the solution from leaking out. Please do something to fix this problem.
