Lovely smelling product and good colour but fades very quickly

I have used this product several times now, and although the colour is lovely and smells great, it fades incredibly quickly. My roots start to show again in about 10 days and for the rest of the month I look like I have untidy hair. Fading in the rest of my hair shows quite reddish undertone which doesn't really go with the professional look I am trying to maintain. I am contemplating on cancelling my subscription as this is expensive and doesn't provide as good a cover as my previous supermarket brand did for a fraction of the price.
Edit: After colour adjustment I have a lovely new shade, and also tried to highlight kit which is marvellous! I have a better result than I have ever had in a salon, for fraction of the time and money.
I’ve been using the same color for about 1.5 years and have been very pleased with the results. The last order I received and applied in November seemed to wash out at the roots within a week. I have dark hair and a few grays that are noticeable at the top roots. Not sure why the color didn’t stick around this time around, as I applied the same as in the past. I just changed my order to arrive two weeks earlier, but don’t feel that’s any solution.
I have always gotten compliments on my hair color. But when my color started fading with age and the grays started to take over it looked so drab. I tried getting my hair colored at salons but I never really thought it looked like me. eSalon fixed that. I have people ask me "is that your natural hair color?" and I can honestly say Yes.
This color is great but after about 4 weeks, gets a little brassy (even though I use an ash tone). That’s about The time I need to retouch it again anyway. Every other color treatment, I go to a salon. The esalon product does a great job and adds shine.
Last shipment got lost in the hustle and bustle of Christmas deliveries called shipped out a second one receive that two days later. Finally got original shipment package was completely destroyed including stuff inside. Great customer service
I don't normally leave reviews online, but my custom hair color from esalon was so good I have to tell other people. My background is that I have had my hair colored in salons for at least 15 years but have recently moved to a very expensive country/city and was looking to save money on my hair care. Also, I should admit that I've been a bit unhappy with my hair color for at least a year or so. I find salons are all pretty much the same -- they all use the main manufacturers and so the colors are quite limited. I felt my hair looked flat and the stylist I had was not paying attention to the fact that my roots were so differently colored than my ends. It drove me crazy.
I have now used the esalon color mixed for me once and I am so impressed. My hair looks and feels really lovely. It covered my gray really well, and the 'ends' color mixed for me really helped even things up. I am really pleased and happy.
Hello. I would like to cancel my subscription and receive a refund for my most recent order. I'm not sure what has changed, but the last 3 times that I have used this product, there is a film left in my hair that takes several shampoos to remove. It's like there is an oil-slick in my hair. I have actually had to cancel arrangements because I colored my hair on the day of my plans, and my hair was so gross that I couldn't go out. I recommended this product to my daughter, and the same thing happened to her. Obviously, whatever change was made to the formula is not working. Please cancel my upcoming order and subscription.

I've spend an absurd amount of money at salons attempting to get my naturally ash blonde hair to a natural looking deep shade of brown. It never fails to turn blackish near the ends and red at the roots. I recently gave up with salon service and made multiple attempts to color my own hair, which turned out better than a trip to the salon and way cheaper, but was still a disappointment. Last night I received my esalon custom color kit and dove right in. I am beyond thrilled with the results! It was easier than expected, didn't smell up the whole house with awful chemicals (my husband didn't even know I was coloring my hair), and the dye didn't even stain the skin around my hairline!! My hair is even toned from root to ends, shiny and the exact color I wanted. I'm a client for life now!
This is a nice product to extend your monthly color . It's a great match in color, but application is a bit hard. The brush (the size of mascara) makes it difficult to apply evenly when you have thick hair. I find just touching up a small part is best.
I really love the color but after about three weeks I could see the few grays at the front of my hair peeking through. I'll give it give it another shot to see how the next application holds up because other than that I have no complaints.
I think the color is good and it covers my grey hair completely, the only reason why i will not give 5 stars is because i don't like the shampoo or conditioner. I don't think its of good quality. The conditioner leaves my hair feeling rough. After coloring my hair i would prefer to have something that leaves my hair feeling soft.
I wish the plastic development squeeze bottle wasn't so sturdy cuz it takes a lot of effort to get it all squeezed out of a throwaway bottle.
The product and results are excellent without drying hair.
I really do like the color however the gray coverage isn’t the greatest. There is a residue that is hard to wash but I have found if you follow directions along with an additional shampooing it does help remove the residue

I really like the color selection we made for my hair and how it looks and also I am very impressed with the customer service at eSalon, however, I didn’t get 100% gray hair coverage, which is what I was really looking for and the reason I came to eSalon. When I told my colorist about the lack of gray coverage at my first application of the product, he immediately offered another kit with a modification at no additional cost. So I am please that they are trying to help me get the gray coverage I want and need. I won’t know until another 4 weeks when i try the modified product. I will make a post update when this happens to comment in the results. If I get the gray coverage I want I will continue with eSalon.
The product reliability is impressive. The color is accurate and covers well. It may fade a little faster than salon color, but this is something that I am not sure I can judge accurately.
I love the concept of doing hair color at home but this is my third round trying to get violet tones in my dark brown hair and it never shows. Hair is still the same color before I started esalon.
Pls don’t send me yet another package because I’m thinking of adding highlights to my hair color .. but not sure about that and also I haven’t used yet the last package I received this December..
The color I got it was a good color. It was pretty easy to follow the instructions and for the whole application. My big problem was that I want a color to cover my white hair and this one didn’t do the job. I had White hair in different parts of my head not in my whole head but the ones I have are very visible and that’s why I tried this to cover those. There are still some white hair all over. I don’t think this color is strong enough to cover it in total. And I followed the instructions perfectly. Even in parts that I know I did it very good, I see white hair. I just wish I can have something strong enough to cover all. But I still recommend esalon products. Everything was so easy to do and follow. I had never color my hair by myself and I did it very good thanks to them. I gave them 4stars because of everything I already said and I still have hope they can help me to find what I’m looking for.
The hair color was great, easy to use and covered my grey really well. The only thing is I want to go a little darker.....not much just a little next time I do my roots.
This is the 2nd time l have tried esalon hair color l am very pleased with the result but you do need once rinsing the color off to put a lot of conditioner on because the hair is quite stiff after rinsing the color off.
I love the color but I have been going grey since I was 20 years old and this time it just didn't give me the coverage that it usually does. I'm still going to use your product and services but I would like to hopefully see a change on the formula or something, I don't know maybe my grey is too stubborn to color, but I know I'm not ready to have a full head of grey hair at 40...
Hair color kit, I must say I love the wider bottle opening for the applicator bottle. Makes it so much easier to mix and shake.
I got to say though I hate the narrow opening on the applicator bottle tip. The color does not come out as quickly as I need for my thick hair. So I snapped the tip and then it’s too wide. Ugh

Changed to a slightly darker blonde with more red (strawberry blonde). Really like the color, have received many compliments! But, only leaving it on for 5 minutes to the rest of the hair after the initial longer time first the outgrowth (roots), it didn’t take too well. The ends were still fairly bright blonde. I decided to get about an inch trimmed off. My last two loaded picks on 12/23/18 are after the hair cut. I like it and will stay with this color for awhile!

New packaging looks nice. The bigger developer bottle to mix in is good. I would only pour half color into the developer bottle and mix thoroughly then put second half in because the original bottle didn’t really allow enough room to get it mixed well (I still did this for this application but probably didn’t need to).
The directions could be a little bigger, darker/bolder. As a 50+ year old, I now need reading glasses. I put contacts in to do my hair so my regular glasses are not in the way, and I’d like to not have to put on my reading glasses with color on my hair to read the next instructions...
The shampoo and conditioner packets are hard to rip open with wet, gloves hands and the section to rip doesn’t allow any product to come out so I needed to get scissors to cut them (I had to do this with the other packages too).
Typically, when I have time, I let the conditioner stay in my hair a couple hours (first wrapped in a towel and then down and combed). I then rinse it out and let it dry naturally for awhile before I blow it out.
My custom color: Light Blonde (Strawberry)
Application Technique: Roots + End (should say “outgrowth”; roots are under the ground ;-) per my previous beautician )

Overall, have really liked eSalon and like when I can change up my color (a bit darker for winter!
Pros: No bad smell, does not irritate my scalp or skin, very good gray coverage (my grays are highly stubborn), easy to follow the instructions and use the kit. Comes with everything you need! Cons: I was looking for overall color, but my instructions said only to use on the roots (with the 3 minute color/water rinse for the length and ends). Also, the part where you mix the leftover color with water and pour over your hair was an absolute mess! It got Ev.ery.where! I had to bleach my shower and scrub my body to get it off. It'd be great if there were an easier/less messy procedure. Overall, my colorist Jennifer did a good job, and for my first attempt at this I am pretty happy with it. I will be curious to see how long is lasts, because the color I had been using tends to fade too quickly and too brassy. Thank you Jennifer!
I have always had my hair done in the salon in the past. But freeing my schedule from the inconvenience of trying to schedule and the time spent going to and from the salon was very appealing. The color is perfect. I actually like it better than the salon color my stylist was using. However, my grays do not stay covered for long. It seems like three weeks after I die them, they are gray again.
I was afraid at first to try it, lol was almost afraid to take the towel off, as I have had some disasters in the past but absolutely fantastic results
First time using it at hom. I think I love it. Want to wait to see how it fades and how long it lasts.
Disappointed my kit did not include the highlights. I thought it did. That is what I understood when had my appointment in Hollywood. Also thought kit came with shower cap. It included everything else except the shower cap(?). Missing from my shipment(?).
I have been trying for a long time to get some attention and help with my account. I am in need of putting my auto shipments on hold. I currently have 6 or 7 sets of color. Due to some medical issues I haven't been able to color my hair as originally set up. PLEASE suspend my future orders.
The color was fantastic! The only problem I had was that once it began to fade, it started looking red, but that's because I didn't mention that my hair has a slight red tint to it, so that was my fault!
I've never had a hair dye quite like this, it's gorgeous and I'm getting compliments all the time. The two different colours for the roots and ends really does make a difference.
The only negative I have is that it took me 2 and half hours to apply it all probably as it's my first time and I've thick long hair (length to my armpit). Which as it took so long the colour on the lengths was just a little too dark.
Everything about my order was super except for one thing-----only one pair of plastic, disposable gloves. The instructions mention to put on a fresh, second pair of gloves, but there was only one pair in my box. Other than one pair of gloves, the product was great. I am gonna order again, but I will have a second pair of gloves "at the ready."
I have been using box dye since I was 20 and got my first gray hair. I’ve always been bummed with the results always ending up too dark or being such a weird color. This year, for the first time I went to a salon for color. I paid $300 for a color that was only ok, provided by possibly the meanest person ever. 6 months later I finally found esalon. I paid $10 for my first box and got to decide the exact color I wanted. My colorist emailed me for a picture because I didn’t include one. Then we emailed back and forth because she wanted to know exactly what I was looking for and she even suggested going a lighter shade of brown, to avoid my fear of going too dark. OH MY GOODNESS. this is the best color I have ever used and I will never ever stop using esalon. It’s the perfect shade of brown, with the perfect undertones. The actual process of dying was made so simple and easy by the kit and the color was literally exactly what I’ve wanted for the past 7 years but never been able to obtain. It’s been three weeks since I colored and I still love it. It’s faded a little obviously but im finally not getting that weird red brown color that I’ve always hated. I already can’t wait to dye my hair again and added the color tint and the clips to my next auto ship. Thank you esalon, you guys are THE BEST EVER.
I loved the root color. It was totally what I wanted. The ends color needs to be a bit darker. The complete top of my head is a whitish silver color while the back of my head is about 50 % white. I love the way the ends color gives me highlights but tends to fade out to a lot lighter color then the rest of my head. Sorry about the nit picky.
Great product no strong order the color is true to what you pick a little costly compared to the store if you were to do it yourself but you get what you pay for well worth the few extra bucks
I love the color and how you can have it specially made and shaded. Also how the kit has everything like a professional would use. The highlights are very pretty and natural looking. Downfall for me is, my gray started showing at my side hairlines within a short time. Also small containers for shampoo and conditioner needs to have more and be in a better standable container. I would like a sticker or something to stick on my calendar showing when I did the color and another for when it is due again.
I’ll be sticking with this color for a while, good gray coverage just wish my roots wouldn’t grow in so quickly. The color matches to the quick touch ups I do with another brand, so it’s not so bad
When I first applied the paint it was dark purple, so I had my doubts. But after a while it turned black and a deep black color. Love it.
However I am noticing that it doesn’t cover as long as the first try
I liked the color a lot. I had just some issues trying to color just my roots. I have short hair. So that was an issue. But other than that I loved it. No bad fumes or funny odor
It does stink to high heaven but it is a fantastic colour, and if you follow the rules about rinsing with left over colour it removes all leakages! It doesn’t leak colour at all! Very good x
I don't have any problems with the final color result. I absolutely do NOT like the overwhelming smell of Ammonia! I still worry about using this product for fear that it might cause more harm (hair loss) than good.
**I still have not used the set that was sent out on 10/24/18. What about a 'Rinse' instead of permanent color. I think this would be more 'gentle' on my hair. What is your opinion?
Great kit with all you need to colour your hair with easy to follow step by step instructions. Hair felt nourished after colouring. Only negative was the colour was slightly too brown this time so made adjustments for next order.

The colour is great but I want to know it's side effects on my hair. The earlier colour that I used made my hair very dry. So i want to know if the ingredients chosen in this colour are safe enough to not cause dryness
I've been very happy with the various shades I've tried up to now, but I was not very fond of the last shade. It has an orange tone which I do not like. I would like to return to the previous color or darken it a bit. Anything to get rid of the orange tone.
Very strong smell, not like another brand I use, that has a very pleasant smell while you wait. I got a little light headed sitting in my tiny bathroom lol but overall a good product! Worth the try for sure
This was my first time using eSalon. I was surprised by how dark the color was when I applied it. They said it was light brown but I thought it was more a medium brown. It turned out very well and I ended up liking it in the end. It is so close to my natural color which is what I prefer so that as it grows out the roots aren't terrible. The only drawback, and the reason I gave it a 4 star is because I really had to stretch it to get all my hair done with one bottle. I always buy 2 boxes of drug store brand so I was really squeezing everything out of the bottle to get all my hair done evenly. I told them I have thick hair but I just barely got enough to do all of it. Overall, good experience.
I'm very pleased with the color and condition of my hair with your product, but would have preferred a shade or two lighter.

Thanks for the extra color. With my long hair, it usually takes more than one container.
The only problem I have is my hair. It's fine and difficult for me to wind up into the four sections without it slipping out of the clips. Finding clips without metal is my biggest issue in the rural area where I reside.
Love the color, just need a slight tweak to make it 5 stars!
