Not the Intended ShadeI picked my new color off of the chart opting for the Darkest Brown in hopes to just had a little red/copper to my color however with how much it lightened it’s as if I select the Dark Brown in the same red/copper tone. Need a little more "strawberry" to the blond.I really liked that my hair did not have a "pink" tint after coloring. The "strawberry" color did not seem to last, however and I was left with mostly blond. The color that I was previously using, L'Oreal 8RB Medium Redish Blond mixed half & half with 8G Medium Golden Blond, resulted in what I thought was a pink tint for about a week, but then transformed in to a great mix of strawberry and blond locks. Canceling After 5 yrs.I have complained about the color mixture and it is still gritty and globby. I was told it was a problem with the delivery. Or the weather. It was neither. Hot RootsI loved how everything was packaged, easy to follow instructions… this was my first time trying and really made a mistake trying something new right before a trip. I followed the instructions completely but ended up with brass colored roots! For context my hair is black and I was supposed to receive a blue black. And I lost so much hair in the shower to top it off! I have been dying my own hair for years and never had an issue. I spoke to a hair professional and she said no way I received true blue black color as my roots wouldn’t have turned this color. I usually don’t write reviews especially bad ones but felt the need to say something. Gorgeous copper tones but didn't cover greysI love the formula and step by step instructions. The custom shade made my hair a more true version of my natural colour. Gray hair coverageLOVE THIS PRODUCT! It took awhile for me to adjust doing my own hair coloring. I stopped going to salons when I realized I was spending over $2,000 a year on salon visits. Using eSalon wasnt working at first on my gray roots, after discussing with them the adjustments they made have been very successful!! I am vey happy with this product! Everything Went WrongI was so excited to finally color my hair with Esalon as it was a custom color formulated especially for me! I even sent pics of my hair so what could go wrong? Well, everything did. I am a natural blonde turning gray with natural and added highlights. I go to a salon to highlight my hair 2 to 3 times a year and have only used Claroil Perfect 10 at home to cover my greys in between my highlights. Perfect 10 left my hair incredibly soft and shiny and accented my highlights. Sadly it was discontinued and I was hoping Esalon would take its place. As soon as I finished my first 20 minutes of coloring I could see my hair getting darker but I still hoped for the best. After I rinsed my color and used the enclosed shampoo and conditioner, my fine hair was extremely dry and impossible to comb out. I then rewet my hair and applied a deep conditioner for 15 minutes which helped comb out my tangles and restored some softness. I literally burst out in tears when I dried my hair. The color was not what I expected at all. It was the darkest shade that my hair has ever been and the color is now somewhere between dark extreme ash blonde and light extreme ash brown with orangey tones; it's horrible! My hair was one of my finest feature and every time I look in the mirror I get extremely upset. This whole ordeal was devastating and I do not know how I am going to get through the holidays as a quasi-brunette. Love the kit- Second time I have problems opening the bottle.I'm going to add my experience with the two last kits I received, first one I had a hard time opening the blue cap bottle and I had to ask my husband to do it and he had problems too, it was a mess and I lost time and couldn't use the whole mix. Now the second time is the same but I can't get help opening the bottle so I stuck with all the prep work and waste of time because of this, I'm very upset because it is my ME time and I have so few of those, completely ruin my day and I can't even color my hair, I hope you take care of this issue because I don't think I'm the only one. Thank you. I really love my color, looks really natural and it has the golden tones I wanted. As a first time, the kit is different from the box you buy at the market but I enjoyed the experience of taking my time to make it just right, it is a lovely presentation and all the personal details make you feel special. Barely any change, and the colour it did leave is awfulI wanted so badly to like this, I was so excited to add a coppery tone to my medium brown hair. Let me also start by saying that as a brunette, I knew the colour wouldn’t be a vivid ginger. However, this product somehow managed to not only transfer hardly any colour at all, but has in fact made my overall hair darker! I wanted a warm, gingery copper, and made a note asking please don’t give any purple or wine tint. But that’s exactly what I got. My hair is now even darker than before and in the light it is dark purple! The directions were also misleading, and maybe this is where I went wrong. The roots needed 15 minutes to develop according to my instructions, but I have a lot of hair so it took me a long time to actually finish with them anyway. And then, it took me longer than 15 minutes to coat my ends, so by the time I had, I was worried about my roots over developing and yet there was no information/time to let my ends saturate. Custom color setThe color was a perfect match. I colored on May 3rd. Gray already coming back. Didn't last 6 weeks, barely made. 7/19/2022: I received the the color and dyed my hair. This one works perfectly for me. The adjustment made to my personalized color was great. I would recommend eSalon to anyone that would like to use a color perfectly designed for them. ADDENDUM: I colored my hair again on July 9th withthelatestadjustmentmade to my color. I thought the color was supposed to last for six weeks, it barely made 3 weeks. Can't even part or pull back my hair without grays. I still have 1 to use, but it's the same as the one I just used. I think I'll just go back to what I've been using. Formula has definitely changed.I've been a long time customer and at first I thought it was my imagination but I can see that the formula has definitely changed. Barely covers my gray hairs any more and the color used to last 3 to 4 weeks, now I'm lucky if it lasts 2 weeks. Unfortunately, it's just not the same. I hate to leave a negative review because you got me through the pandemic without having to show my gray hair growth. Thank you for that. Color FadingI was super excited to try this product because I have had a positive experience with their at-home highlights kits! I have been washing my hair with salon-quality shampoo and conditioner made for colored hair, but my color is still viably washing out of my hair. Has potentialKit was well organized. My hair is long, down to my waist and I needed the help of another person. Definitely need to order the cape next time as I got dye on my chair and towel. Color was ok but not perfect. Roots needed to be a bit darker and less brassy. I thought the color for the ends refresh was perfect though. Disappointed ☹️I decided to try eSalon after a lot of debate, I’m in my early fifties so have some grey, my natural hair colour is mousey brown so have not been my natural colour for about 4 years due to my greys, I’m now an ash blonde, so I ordered a medium ash blonde as I jump between medium and light ash blonde that way I get my perfect colour all year round I followed the instructions to the letter and found it easy enough to apply so far so good 😊 love the box and how it’s laid out looks very personal unfortunately I now have a beautiful medium golden blonde colour which if I’d ordered golden blonde I’d be very happy with the results, it’s very rich and shiny but this is not the colour I ordered, my friends and family said it looks lovely but I ordered and wanted medium ash blonde, There is definitely no ash in this colour I now have, and I’m going to have to use my blonde shampoo to remove the red, please be careful what you order as it’s obviously a gamble as to what you’ll end up with! But…… after several months of use (every 6 weeks to 2 months I would do my roots) IT FRIED MY HAIR!!! ITS LIKE STRAW!!! I then realized that with continued use it kills your hair. So at first it looked great because my hair was already really healthy. Now after several applications it’s dead, fried. Had better results with L’Oréal and Clairol. And it was less expensive. Lasts 3 washesI had a salon colour and roots were growing in (hi covid)... I decided to give this a try. They suggested demi permanent. After 2 washes I could notice my roots again. After 3 - my roots are back. :( They are less noticeable than prior to coloring but definetely noticable. The good news is - I made no mess on my skin (my stylest stains my skin and clothes so this was greatl!) (because they provide you with protection!!) Packaging makes this easy and specialized. This was worth a try. I will see if I can get something more permanent or refresh with the second containers they add on the first order (in case u have lots of hair). Bought copper blonde, got reddish brown.I was really excited to try this product. I have some experience lightening and dying my hair at home as well as going to the salon, so I thought this would be the perfect happy medium between the two. I uploaded a couple pictures, and thought I provided all the right details. I even mentioned I'd likely be trying to refresh my own balayage highlights with the product. I had picked something copper-blonde, while my hair is currently medium brown with some grown out highlights. I see now they have a clay-based lightener product, and that is definitely what I should have went with. Although you would think my "personal colorist" would have reached out with that option since I mentioned it. I didn't hear from her except for a "hope you like your color" in my email that my product had shipped. I was worried right away when I received the product. It came with only a 20 volume developer. That didn't seem like it would be strong enough to turn medium brown hair to a blonde. But I decided to trust the process! Unfortunately I was right. The hair color actually darkened my hair! I think since it wasn't a strong enough developer, my hair didn't really lighten, while the coppery color that was deposited was darker than my natural hair color, and especially got rid of my highlights. Even though the color said it was a blonde, I definitely have brown hair, so I was surprised that it darkened. I was hoping worst case that it wouldn't be noticeable change. I double processed some sections of my hair to get a tiny bit of highlighted copper color, but it's still barely noticable and darker than it was before. Considering they were old highlighted sections, those should have been too light if anything! The concept, website, and packaging was all very cute. Unfortunately it leaves a lot to be desired in actual function. Great ideaI was so looking forward to a bit of Salon feel but at home but after using this dye I can only compare myself to a Lego head it’s just black no variety of colours that make it look a bit more natural that you get with other at home colours I use. it literally looks like someone has put a black carpet on my head and cut around it to my hair length. I was so looking forward to this so I can order and go and I’ll have the same colour every 6 weeks I don’t have to think about it or worry that there won’t be the right colour when it comes to dying my hair but it’s just not for me. Not what I expectedAfter reading reviews and watching videos I felt good about my purchase. The color was amazing, it was exactly what I had been looking for. I ordered and right on time it showed up in the mail. I had a retired licensed hairdresser color my hair. The process was smooth and easy. It came time to rinse the color and dry my hair. The color is horribleThe box is cool, the process is cool, even the dye looked promising. These colors aren't formulated for red hair. Blonde is the closest base. The hair color was supposed to take my natural hair color to a more intense copper. It took my beautiful red hair and turned it orange, blonde and pinkish. I uploaded videos. Not covering my grays enough and also too warmHi! So I’m a cool complexion and this color is more for a warm! Also I want to change the color to more of a high lift blonde! It can have some strawberry blonde to it. Maybe there’s a high lift strawberry blonde that’s not brassy? And it would still need to be for a cool complexion. Outcome not as requestedI ordered ash blonde in order to make my blonde hair a little darker and duller. Ash blonde is a colour I used to use when I dyed my own hair. Since switching to a professional, I couldn't say the exact tones used but definitely not ashy. What I actually ended up with was ginger hair - not an ashy tone in sight. My concerns about the colour haven't been addressed other than telling me to perform a strand test to ensure I'm satisfied with my colour before I apply to the full head. The 100% satisfaction guarantee has certainly not been met on this occasion nor has any 'professional' advice been offered by my 'personal colourist'. Wonderful product, disappointing deliveryI have been so impressed with my custom color set! It covers my grays and leaves my hair silky and smooth. I wish eSalon would use a different shipment carrier. Delivery takes from 7-14 days or longer. Thinking of changing because of long delays . Two Shades Darker...........Now what do I do?I have been touching up my own roots in between professional hair coloring for 10 years. According to my colorist, I have become great at it. With salons in my area of California closed since March 12th, I felt I needed to do more than touch up my color. I filled out everything on eSalon and even sent them pictures taken in great light that perfectly captured my color. I am a professional who is blessed enough to still have a job and am on video calls all day with a professional camera and lighting that are often my close up. My hair came out 2 shades darker! This is really a problem for me as I have gray roots on the crown of my head as well as below my temples. Now they will show in a few days given the dramatic contrast. And. I have no alternative but to maintain this terribly too dark color until professional salons open again. It is really upsetting to me and I have no idea how such a dramatic mistake could be made. I don't know the point of sending in a picture if they are going to mix something so dramatically different. When I filled out the feedback form, they did reply immediately with an offer for free color and suggestions to use either a clarifying shampoo or a color stripper which shows they are completely insensitive to the situation. Many of us live in areas where we cannot get either color or a cut. How can you suggest people use damaging processes to correct your huge mistake when who knows when they will be able to get their roots cut off? I am very surprised others have had such good results and mine are so bad. Perhaps a new employee? Whatever it was, I am now faced with endless touch ups every two weeks at minimum to maintain this way too dark hair for my skin color until professional salons open to help me solve the problem. 0 of 0 people found this review helpful. Brassy is bad :(I wrote to my colorist, “beware I tend to get very brassy.” I am naturally a dishwater blonde, but I typically got heavy ashy blonde highlights every 6 weeks. I was very excited to try this home color service. I’ve never colored my hair from home before. I was looking forward to saving time, money AND being able to color from home during the pandemic..... The marketing of the product is fantastic and it was easy to use. Once I finished and dried my hair the color looked terrible, it is more of an dark brassy orange. When I saw a friend she asked if I’ve been washing my hair in iron water. A good kit, but should have stuck to my guns on the colour I pickedThe kit that comes with it is good. The 2 pairs of gloves (although may be a little tight if you had large hands), the stain remover and guard etc all great. I like the style of the packaging and how quick its received. But let's be real, this product is really about the colour you get. I sent a photo, I wrote about what I wanted, but expressed I was flexible because I don't know about their shades and they're supposed to be experts. I don't use permanent colours usually, I use a semi permanent every now and then when my greys get on my nerves, but it had been a while. My ends had lightened a bit in the sun (given how much we've had and the fact that covid meant I'd had more time to spend in it) and they'd got a copper tiny due to my ginger relatives. I said I wanted a dark brown, clicked the shade and was advised alway from it. The instructions wanted more time spent on my roots ( even though they are the darkest part of my hair). The dye was on my end for 10 mins, plus a wash with the left overs, so you can still see some copper tones shining through. Its nice in the sense it looks natural, but I've basically got my own hair colour back. Not at all what I requested, frustrated with the whole process.I did a strand test last night as soon as my color kit arrived. I wanted a color that would be a mahogany or brownish red. I spent multiple days going back and forth through email with my colorist. This back and forth was prompted my a message I sent, explaining that I was "panicked" about the color I chose and was seeking professional guidance. The first colorist I spoke to was very understanding and explained that to achieve the color I wanted, I needed a color fill first since my hair is light. She made me feel better that the color could be tweaked so it wouldn't turn out too red or too orange. Then I was set up with another colorist in the middle of my exchange with the first one. I was unclear on whether the new colorist felt the same way about approach as the first, reviewed our correspondence etc. I tried to clarify all this with the second colorist through email. I explained that I reached our originally because I wasn't sure if the color I selected would give me the results I wanted based on the pictures I shared and my current color. This person was not forthcoming with any details regarding if my color needed to be adjusted, if there was any customization that would take place due to my vocalized fears etc. She just repeated that the color I chose was the right choice and I would be happy. The color kit I received did contain two bottles of color but they were the same color, didn't seem to be a fill color to darken my hair to get it ready for red. Thank goodness I watched the esalon videos on how to do a strand test. In contrast with my inspo pictures I shared with my colorist (Emma Stone red, brown hair, and others), what I got was a rosy, pinky blonde color that was very off putting, unnatural and nothing at all like the pictures I sent. I am very thankful that I did not apply to the rest of my hair. I can understand if what I asked for was unachievable given my current color but my colorist should have told me that and helped me adjust. 0 of 0 people found this review helpful. Did you? |
