My last color seems to be lasting a little longer than the one before. Instructions were to leave it on longer. However, my hair seems dry - at least more than it had been. I have to be careful not to wash too much or use too many hair products and especially heat styling.
You know that saying "three times a charm"? After a couple of adjustments they nailed it on the 3rd try. This color is so close to my original color and hides all those "wisdom highlights". I'm a natural blonde and the brash red highlights I'd get with a store bought product was awful. I even quit coloring my hair for a bit to see what the gray looked like. Not good! I can't afford to go to a salon every month so I decided to give eSalon a try. I'm so happy I did. Giving them a chance to make necessary adjustments was a wise decision. The home delivery is a plus too. I never have to step out with gray roots!
The product was super user friendly and the kit came with plenty of product for my hair. I have no complaints, the only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is the color is starting to fade just a little at the roots and it’s only been a few weeks and I don’t wash my hair often. Other than that, my hair feels great. It’s nothing like box dyes.
I got my first color yesterday and did it last night the color was darker then I thought it would be but very pretty. I was sent two bottle of color and toner I had to use both. Bottles on my hair cause it was so thick and long. So I guess if I’m wanting to do my whole hair I have to have two bottle if I’m just doing the root one should be enought
I love the fact that it doesn't drip and that it's very easy to apply. However, it, I find that the color doesn't seem to cover the gray very well, and it fades. Leaving my hair looking ashy when the gray starts peeking through. My hair is down to my waist, so it looks like it washes out and fades.

Usually I am very satisfied but this month one of the bottles leaked and I had red/ brown color all over the other products and I was worried that it would change the way the color worked.
When choosing the colour I wanted from the pallet, I had my reservations. This was down to the colour my monitor was displaying and sometimes the real life version in front of the eyes can be quite different. But this colour was exactly as I imagined. The instructions were extremely user friendly and the top expert tips really help set the colour off great! The one drawback for me I found was my hair took a good few days to get back to its glossy look as the dye seemed a bit harsh to the hair. Overall it is a great product and I shall continue to enjoy trying different shades.
My first order in July of 2017....It was ok had to adjust the color because it was not quite what I wanted but after a couple different adjustments now the base color is great.
I love my color. I've been using esalon for several months now, and I've been thrilled with my hair results each month. My reason for four stars instead of five is the shipping price...in my opinion, you might be able to retain loyal customers better if free shipping was offered for customers who have a subscription for their color. Even with the few dollars off, the price is just a little steep for me. I'll continue to purchase for now, but I'm not sure I'll continue long-term if the shipping charges remain each month.
Each time I use it, I feel a film on my hair. While I have figured out a solution, it's still discouraging. Will continue to order. But still trying to get a little more brown, and a littles less black.
I LOVED the color & the ease of ordering and quality of the product and tools. The only thing I was bummed about was how quickly my grays came through. It was within 2 weeks I colored my hair & I already need to redo the roots. Was hoping for longer gray coverage then ordinary box dye
It's fabulous colour and very easy to apply. It does smell very strongly of ammonia when washing through the ends of my hair- a bit eye-stinging, but that's a minor issue!
I'm not sure if the formulation has changed but when I first tried this in 2015 it was fine. This time, the color was too dark at the roots and the ends refresh didn't cover the grey. I ordered chocolate brown and it came out deep mahogany which is way too much red for me. My previous base color was much lighter.
Worst of all, when I removed the color and washed my hair it came out really gummy. I tried to dry it but it just got gummier. I finally had to rewash it and then again with a vinegar rinse before it finally came clean.
I really like the concept of professional style color at home and the price is good so I'm a bit disappointed.
I love my hair color it’s awesome. My only issue is the color stays on my head for or in my hair for a week or longer after processing. That’s with doing it myself the first time and a stylist did it the second time with the same results. So it wasn’t just a rinsing issue. Other than that I couldn’t be happier.
For my first attempt I was really pleased with the colour and the improved condition of my hair. Three weeks on, still pleased although slight evidence of some grey showing through in the sideburn area but with the lighter colour not as noticeable as before.
This was my first order of the dark blond. I love the color however I didn't like the enclosed shampoo or conditioner. The products made my hair feel heavy. I had to rewash my hair with my regular shampoo and conditioner. After I rewashed my hair everything was fine.
I had been using the Ms. Clariol brand of hair color in dark blond for years. After turning 40 I noticed I have to color my hair every 4-5 weeks so my gray doesn't take over. It's been 3 1/2 weeks since I colored with the eSalon hair color and my gray is barely showing. Usually by now I have to grab a box of hair color and pencil in a time to dye my hair again. My color is staying true and not turning kind of copper like it usually does. By the way I also liked that the color was on reorder. I'm really busy and so forgot to reorder. I checked my email yesterday and noticed it was reordered for me.
. UNBELIEVABLE. do not hesitate. Much better than any high priced salon

I don't get it. You guys are really sumthin!! How you can get the shade, the nuances to accent complexion, present coloring ( if any), and the requests is unbelievable. This was the 1st time I got exactly what was best in the bottle! The 1st time I, myself, KNEW what I wanted but somehow, noone else was getting it in PERSON! I'm talking lots of salon visits, LOTs of money, Lots of communicating with the stylist or colorist in this case. Still, always came away feeling undersatisfied or let down.. They make you think they "got it". But at the end or once you get home its always something you just have to make due with.. . You guys really listen to every detail My case.. grays, aging hair, condition changes that go along with that. It's bad enough to get older. PRESENT coloring is big too. Anyway, they heard it all on line. Somehow they got it so RIGHT! The first time I was extremely happy with the result of the color they sent. Condition of hair was great, no drying ends, color saturaton was just right, even on highlighted hair, blended beautifully, and lasted longer without fading. Totally complimented my complexion and even enhanced it. The reason I waited so long to order again was ONLY because of the necessity to wait several months after a major surgery and for my hair to get healthy again. Major surgery, trauma or high stress wreaks havoc on your system. Your hair will reflect it, no doubt.

I was excited about trying this out. While I LOVE the personalized experience, my color was not what I asked for. I do understand that the color I requested is a bit more difficult. I wish I had been informed on any issues with achieving it. I asked for a purple / black color (which I've achieved elsewhere), but my haircolor is simply black. Since I loved everything else so much, I'm going to try one more time. I'll lighten the color to see if that helps. I truly hope it turns out better.
I have a lot of grey and this covers my hair well....i am disappointed by the dullness of the colour....not at all shiny and makes me feel a bit dull!! 😔 not sure what to do?!
When I decided to start coloring my hair at home I had tried another mail order home coloring brand as well as esalon. With the other home delivery brand, My roots were always lighter than my ends and the color began washing out and fading after one week.
This time.... FINALLY- After at least 5 tries spaced at least 1 month apart- I LOVE MY COLOR! I chose Medium Brown 5.0 this time. I also ordered Demi permanent this time, instead of permanent, because I only have a few Greys. I just wanted hair to match my natural Hair Color. Brown- Not Red, or gold or black.... just natural brown. I love the Neutralizer in it, and the Medium Brown is PERFECT! I was LITERALLY one Home Color away from giving up going back to the Salon! I have had several different Esalon email accounts - Medium Ash Brown turned out Black. All of the Light Brown Combos (Ash, Cool Beige, Golden) all turned my roots red or light orange.
This time, I sent a long paragraph detailing all of these issues and sent pictures in with my order.
My roots are perfect! Medium Brown 5.0. It is the very first time I’ve ever loved my home color! My greys are covered. And my hair isn’t red- or too dark, or too ashy.... love it!
I carefully colored my roots only. I only did the emulsion through my ends, because they always have turned black any time I pull even Light Brown through.

I ordered my first color set purely out of curiosity. I have been using off-the-shelf box color for years and after seeing months of advertisements I decided to see what made eSalon color different. So I filled out the profile and waited patiently(ish).
Despite my impatience, the color box showed up very quickly. Unfortunately one of the color bottles exploded all over the inside of the box. I contacted the customer support team and they had a replacement in the mail the very next day.
I used the color the other evening and the directions were very clear and easy to follow. I’m still debating and deciding whether or not I might need to adjust the color for my next box but that’s entirely personal preference and absolutely nothing to do with eSalon. My experience with them so far has been outstanding.
I love the products and the colour is perfect - but what have they done to the design. Its gone from being beautifully designed and aspirational to basic and and badly designed. The design was what first attracted me. Lucky I still love the product otherwise I would have cancelled my subscription.
I'm on third round of esalon's hair dye and while I was pleased with the colour I have noticed that my hair have been super-damagedm by these products! I've coloured my hair for years, but I've never tried something so damaging: now I have to cut my hair of at least 8 cms cause it's so full of split ends!
I'm completely dissatisfied and I do expect a full refund.
I tried the same color a second time and followed the instructions, I was very dissatisfied because the color faded way too quick, I can get a better result with store bought color. I won't be ordering this again.
This was an amazing product but I was not very happy with my color. I am naturally dark blonde and like to do a natural blonde (lighter) and when I submitted my picture showing where my grey was the colorist emailed me back saying that the natural was going to be to light and that they had come up with a better color based on my picture. I figured that they "knew" best but I really should have trusted my instinct and went with my first color. I am now 1. Happy with the beautiful coverage it gave me but 2. disappointed in the color as I am now back at my natural color of hair. For many it is not a very big deal but I like my hair to be a lighter tone of blonde then darker. I would recommend this product to my family and friends as I regularly get asked about my hair. Thank you eSalon and I really hope that my next product is better in color.

I am a natural readhead , red hair color is extremely hard to do correctly , especially mine as I have red orange gold and a bunch of other undertones naturally
Started coloring my hair in my 40's
To cover some greys and also my hair had lost some of its luster as well
Went to countles salons some results where disastrous one time I came out with crayola red hair color another time carrot top ,finally I just started telling the to do red and blond highlights
Finally I gave up tiered of spending hours on the salon plus the cost
I found esalon , sent pictures of what my hair looked like now sent pictures of my natural ,they sent me the custom color and it was Perfect
Not only is the color perfect the formula it self has not damaged or dry my hair I think it actually improved my hair,plus the convinience of doing at home and at more than half the price !
Overall I liked it pretty well. The color is a little darker than what I imagined, but it's still really pretty. The only complaint I really have is the texture of the dye. When I went to wash it out of my hair, the dye was sticky and leaving residue all over my hands. It felt like I had gum in the ends of my hair. I was in the shower for over an hour trying to wash it out and it still never came out. I had to use some Neutrogena Build-Up remover shampoo to get it out my hair. Other than that, no complaints really! I will more than likely order again.
The colorist did not stop until they found the exact color that I wanted. It took three times for me to get it right, but they were patient and came up with what I wanted. I appreciate their help.

I loved the new box style, so cool, I love the color that was prepared for me. It has covered my gray roots, and I am gladly surprised how long the white root cover is lasting ( 3 weeks so far) . I just gave it 4 stars because the color really started to fade significantly after 10-12 days, what was quite disappointing. Since I just wash and style my hair roughly once a week with good products, I don’t think it is due to this. So I am still not quite sure about the quality of this dye. When I tried esalon before, I left because of the same reason - fading- but I am decided to give it a little more time .
I have had many compliments on my color every time I re color I have someone mention how much they like the color. The one thing is it doesn't last longer than three weeks barely. Is there a way to have it not fade as quickly I feel like 2 weeks and I am waiting impatiently for the next shipment. Otherwise love the custom color.
I have been an esalon customer for several years and I love the products and the service and have recommended it to many friends. I have been very happy with the results and get frequent compliments. Before I get on to the next part of my review I want to stress that I am very happy with esalon and have no intention of leaving. However, I am disappointed with the redesigned packaging and branding. I am a seasoned art director/graphic designer and in my professional opinion the new design is not an improvement - not aesthetically or functionally. The original branding concept “Love” was much better and more contemporary. The new packaging of the shampoo and conditioner, look too similar and are hard to open. The tear off tab does not leave a large enough opening. I also preferred the old bottle for the color, I found it easier to pour into the activator. I also think it is unnecessary to have a separate box for the gloves. Fortunately the packaging and the design have nothing to do with the quality of the product and the results .
The new packaging of the shampoo and conditioner is worse than the old packaging. It does not tear open at all with wet hands. I had to exit the shower to find scissors and get my floor wet in order to open both packages. The old ones were hard enough to get open but these are mucc worse. The products are fine but the packaging did not need to be changed to something worse.
I absolutely love your product. I will not purchase off the shelf hair color any longer. I noticed the new packaging. It is nice and I appreciate that is uses less resources. I do want to point out that the bottle that the developer came in leaked during shipment. It also leaked when I was mixing the product in the bottle and leaked when I was squeezing it onto my hair line. I got it my face. I don't know if I just got a bad bottle but I wanted to point it out in case there is a quality issue with the bottle. Otherwise I am a devoted customer and love how gentle your product is on my coarse hair.
I got a lot of compliments on my hair color it’s really the color I want little darker then what I want but to cover my gray hair it’s perfect .. I have one comment my hair is thin I can use one bottle for 2 times it’s a waste to through the rest of the bottle where I have some left if only I can use it for 2 applications would that be an option or once I open the bottle I have to use it all ?
It was perfect. Unfortunately, I spilled some if the developer for the ends color. I still applied it but it wasn’t as uniform but I think it was that spilling and my concern about leaving it too much time. In this case I wonder why should I do?
My hairdresser has been doing highlights that are more tone on tone without bleach. My hair is in very good shape. But, the grays are moving in and the highlights just didn't suit my skin tone. I was also paying $150 for color that just wasn't working for me. I've used the custom color once and love how fresh and shinny my hair is now. Gray is gone! I just look brighter and younger! I'm happy!
While I really liked the kit, the color was nothing like I was expecting. I choose violet, and my hair is brown with a hint of red.
Update: They are sending a kit to adjust my color, fantastic customer service!
I just want to say how amazed I am with the colour I achieved with the esalon colour set. I ordered it ages ago (march?) but was building up courage to use it! Today is the day. The application was easy- great step by step instructions, the shampoo and conditioner sachets are great however please please please can you work on the sachets themselves? They're probably most of the time opened in the shower where hands are wet or a bit slimy from taking the gloves off and I ripped the conditioner sachet and had the smallest hole ever to squeeze the conditioner out (teeth are not working here either), so needed to really struggle to get the conditioner out :D this would be my only suggestion. Also, do you do other size gloves? On the box it says "size M" but if I could select size XS that would be awesome! well done and I am looking forward to more :) loving the new look of your packages too. thank you team esalon!
This color came out more light titian than golden blonde, I guess that's b/c there's still a good bit of auburn in among the white. Anyway, it is lovely, exactly what I wanted. Btw, I tell people about eSalon whenever the cost of coloring your hair comes up.
I live the product and the packaging with instructions are amazing. I am still having ‘problems’ with the color my greys are taking up. I want to move away from red undertones and get more browns. A friend of mine mentioned adding ‘Ash’. ?!?
Love everything about this product. The only little grumble I have is there’s not enough of the shampoo or conditioner provided to actually wash or condition my long hair. I have to save them up & use 3 at once.
Hi, my name is Robyn Carpenter and I have had my e salon coloring kit since February 2018 and have never used it. One I was afraid it would be too dark and two I didn't want to color my whole head just put in streaks here an there. Well nobody wanted to help me do that so I just never used it.......Until......
May 3, 2018 and I deceided to do it myself. I read the instructions, mixed my color, shook it vigorously, put on my gloves and from that point didn't do anything the instructions said. I did a lot of the back at the neckline and then at the front of the face. Where I knew there was lots of gray I did more but basicly I went north and south in lines and rubbed it in as I went. I let it set for 20 minutes and then washed it out. It was nice. Without shocking anyone I would appear almost as normal only with just a touch of minimal dark. Hardly noticeable. Well this morning I thought to do this again because I didn't used the whole bottle of mixture, so I vigorously shook it and applied it to all of my hair this time. Including doing double in the grayest of areas. I waited 20 minutes and washed, dried and styled my hair. There is gray that just isn't going to cover and the color is so pretty. Yes it is still mixed with a little gray and I like that but the hair at the front of my face just looks lighter and not colored still gray. I have always heard gray hair is hard to color and has a mind of it's own. But truly I am very happy with the color my color man/gal chose for me. Respectfully, Robyn C
The color that I was sent was just what I wanted...until I washed my hair for the first time after coloring. I don’t like the demipermanent type of color that was sent because it doesn’t last at all even when using shampoo and conditioner formulated for colored hair.

I am pleased with the redesign of the product containers, specifically the one for the developer. The old one was NOT big enough to adequately mix the product when you added the color. This time it was so much easier. I used to have to dump it into a container and mix by hand to get it to blend properly. This time I did not. As for the rest of the update, as long as the product works well I don't care what color or design the print materials are!
The packaging was so cute with stickers to pin up the instructions and my name all over the place. The hair color was very easy to use and EXACTLY the shade I was looking for. But it only lasted about 2 days. I didn’t wash it for the first 48 hours to be safe, then the first wash with color safe products, I was a strawberry blonde again. I was so in love with the color but somehow it faded faster than drugstore color? I’m not sure if it was something I did or maybe with blonde to red I just really needed to get some in between toner or something to help keep the color fresh. I know this could be my fav color ever though, that’s why I still gave it 4 stars.

Great customer service, great color. It has lasted really well, and never got brassy or faded looking. Have to say I feel like your new graphic designer has led you astray-- too many fonts, too many colors, layout is boring, there's nothing eyecatching. I thought I had been misdirected to a cheap generic knockoff of esalon on at first. I liked the wit of the old names. Your old look was much fresher and more hip. But as long as your customer service and product don't change, I'll be a devoted customer! Thanks!
i think you have auccessfully neutralized the red undertones in my hair so that i can one day get a true “darkest brown” — i do not want black though, or blue-black, but definitely darkest brown. now that it is neutralized, perhaps this batch won’t need the neutralizer, just in case it over-neutralizes to like green or something : )
Having been a "boxed hair dye" user for a year or two, I noticed it didn't last long even though it was "permanent" and the color never seemed to apply evenly. After never finding what I needed (the color, the permanency, the even application, the shine, etc.), I went to a stylist to have all the previous color removed and have it re-dyed at the hands of a professional. What I got in return was almost black hair when I wanted my natural medium brown (aka light brown in dye).
So, on my own, I removed all the color and let my hair "do-it's thing" for a few weeks. Once everything calmed down, I decided to give eSalon a try. I am so happy I did and I wish I had found them so much sooner!
Not only is the hair color true to what I was seeking, but it is also long-lasting. It doesn't seem to cause damage to my hair and the recovery products (shampoo and conditioner) that come in the package restore it to a silky-smoothness that I haven't felt in years!
This dye goes only where you put it. When you wash your hair out, it doesn't bleed out onto the towel -- I have white towels and they are still fresh and bright! I have a decent amount of gray hair in the front and underside on my hair, and this dye covers better than anything I've ever used (even from the "professional" salon).
I would recommend this dye to anyone and have been! It's a game changer.
