I’d give it zero stars if possible. Black dye turned my hair orangeI was honestly so excited for my order to come!! I thought, FINALLY, an amazing blue black dye that won’t just wash out after 3 shampoos. Wow. How incredibly wrong I was. I’ve NEVER experienced Blue Black Hair Dye, bleaching my natural medium brown hair ORANGE. The dye out of the bottle was such a gorgeous blue black tone and I had no doubt it would fully take with my hair, as I could see the beautiful black tones coming through. I followed ALL the instructions to a t. Washed the dye out as directed, and I go to the mirror expecting my hair/roots perfectly colored black. UNFORTUNATELY THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. MY ROOTS WERE ORANGE. Almost as if I had used bleach. I began brushing my hair out, and my husband couldn’t even believe how light my hair had turned. My NATURAL color isn’t even this light, nor does it have an orange tint. I honestly didn’t know it was possible for black dye to bleach ones hair, but thanks to ESalon, I now know, it is most definitely possible. I’ve always had extremely healthy hair, but now I am absolutely Terrified to attempt covering up this god awful color. I’m just dumbfounded. I’ve been dying my hair since 2006. This is the first time I actually cried when the towel came off my head. I never write bad reviews, as I am in the service industry as well. Ruined my hair.My hair is naturally a mid brown that has a very golden tone. It had gotten a little too golden during the summer so I thought I’d dye it with a demi permanent ashy mid tone colour to neutralise the red/golden hue it had turned over summer. The colour I selected was mid ashy brown, my own colour but ashy not golden. Well....after using this dye my hair is black! All my natural tones and highlights are gone; it’s just a flat black. I truly looking like I’m wearing a cheap black Halloween wig! I’m absolutely mortified at how bad it looks. I’ve washed my hair about 10 times since dying it and each time the water runs dark brown but my hair remains black. I’ve a hair appointment next week to see if this can be fixed in any way. The only positive from using this dye is that it has convinced me to never dye my hair at home again. Edit: Cecilia, I appreciate the swift reply and offer of credit to my account. Room for improvementI used the product as prescribed and even left it in a bit longer but I still see some gray in stubborn areas. Just not what it used to beWhen I started using eSalon (a few years ago) the formulation was amazing. The color lasted fully between colorings. I usually didn't need to recolor for six weeks. Now I am barely getting four weeks, and gray roots show up after 2-3 weeks - and I do not wash my hair every day. Did not cover my graysI made note to my colorist specifically that gray coverage was the most important thing to me from this experience. My grays were not covered AT ALL! Bye Curls Bye Shine. Hello damaged Dry Hair!Upon receiving my hair color package, loved the packing and, instructions. It applies on thick and clings on. I left it for 1 hour due to my grey hair. I always comb my hair when dyeing , to my surprise m6 hair was tangled into a knot. Carefully I had to de tangled, my hair felt hard. Regardless how much conditioning I apply. Now I have no curls, no shine! Im applying raw coconut and Shea butter everyday for this hair color has made it look dry and straw like . Can’t stop crying. Paid extra for faster processing and still did not get in timeI was excited to get my color so I could do my hair before a work event. I ordered and paid $5 extra to expedite. I also answered that I needed the color asap in questionaire. Seven days later I was still waiting for the color which finally came too late for my event. When I sent an email to complain the lady that answered said I only paid to "process faster" but not ship faster. That would cost even more!! At a price thats already high for home color this really is beyond reasonable in my opinion. The email replies she sent were also condesending so I will not be buying from them again. I was OKWhat I'm looking for specifically are the all-over multi-colored facets that are in the entire color. I feel the directions that were sent to me were probably if someone was going for a more "ombre" look and that's not what I was going for. Now, the crown of my hair is much lighter than the rest of my hair, and I kinda feel it looks funny. As far as the color, I am definitely going for a more "golden" tone vs a red tone in the chocolate brown color and I still feel I have more of a red tone. :( I feel the chocolate color is spot on and more to my natural color. catastrophe!!!Chatain naturellement j avais fait une coloration rousse et je désirais un roux plus soutenu plus orangé pus chaud, j'ai envoyé ma demande, une photo et je suis brune avec des reflets aubergine!!!!! j ai les cheveux très très longs aux fesses c'est irrattrapable....je suis plus que dégoutée tout mon entourage m a fait la remarque, mes cheveux sont très fonces avec des reflets violets et mes sourcils sont tellement plus clairs maintenant! Si vous tenez à vos cheveux, ne prenez pas le risque..... et en plus je viens de m'apercevoir que c'est un abonnement et ils ont osé me renvoyer une autre coloration!!!!! Not quite sure yetThis was my first time using eSalon. I had my hair professionally coloured at a salon and it didn't turn out how I wanted it (ash brown). When I signed up for esalon, it was recommended that I use a tint rinse to deposit colour back into my hair from the highlights I had. So I did that, turned my hair intensely orange, but I perservered to the actual colour application. Instructions were clear and easy to understand. Rinsing out in the shower made an absolute mess just to warn everyone! But anyway I did that then dried and styled my hair and it's just...meh. The colour is way way way darker than I wanted/hoped for, definitely not ash, more so dark brown. My hair just lacks dimension and looks blah. DisappointedI was so excited to get my new color. I have had trouble in the past with my grey hairs turning pink instead of auburn, so I thought I would give this a try. I followed the directions on top of already coloring my own hair fir the last 30+ years and it didn’t turn my grey hair pink but it barely covered my grey hair. DISAPPOINTEDFirst of all, I really like how gentle the product feels on my hair-the color, and the shampoo and conditioner do not feel harsh at all. I also don't feel the need to add an extra intensified hair conditioner just because I've colored my hair. I changed the formula from a demi-permanent formula to a permanent one and changed the color (I thought)-requesting a little more gold and mahogany. I was hoping that it was going to be a darker and richer color. Instead it barely looked as though I had even colored my hair, except for the covering the gray (which is a good thing). However, I noticed that I was sent a 20 volume developer instead of 10 like the last time, which would have made it more rich and darker looking. MY FIRST TIME: "Custom" Blonde. SO DISAPPOINTED!!I decided to try eSalon because my daughter kept telling me about how harsh the "cheap" Revlon and/or Loreal haircolor I used was and how I would ruin my hair. So when I saw the ad and reviews for eSalon, it sounded perfect. Answering the questions with colorist (c ompleting questionnaire) I explained that I needed to cover my white/gray roots, and came up with "Medium/Golden Blonde" which was the closest to my current hair color (or so I thought). I was so excited to think that I wouldn't have to keep changing brands and colors, trying to achieve a certain look. I was so sure I'd be doing this forever; I even Splurged and bought the Color Tools kit with the bowl, brush and hair clips. And I also, purchased the Protective Cape and the Hair Tint Rinse. What happened after carefully watching the videos and following the steps to color my roots was: My Gray hair turned out a dark, Reddish-Brown and my White hair is almost Orange! My husband had a good laugh and I cried. Not only is the color awful, but all of my hair feels So dry. I am honestly really shocked! I expected the results to be so much better. Especially the dry hair result, even with the "cheap stuff " my hair feels nice right after coloring. Obviously this is not the hair color for me. It breaks my heart. Good price at first then was way more $.Color faded fast, and didn’t cover grey for long at all. Like I said it’s a good price to lure you in then, way too expensive. Could never get the color right for me either. I just decided to have it professionally done, and I’m HAPPY with the color and everything! I’ll leave my coloring to the professionals. Cape and dye kit worked great... Oh and my hair was not shiny at all. BefriedigendHallo, Vom Service bin ich top begeistert. Als mein Paket mit meiner auf mich abgestimmten Farbe ankam, war ich voll erstaunt. Sehr schön gemacht mit dem eigenen Namen auf der farbe und den Accessoires für die Anwendung. Jedoch muss ich auch etwas beanstanden. Farb Ergebniss super toll, jedoch nach 2 Wochen kamen viele graue Haare am Ansatz wieder hervor. Das ist mir für den Preis und die Anwendung von Ansatz und Länge färben zu wenig halt. Normalerweise färbe ich so alle 6 Wochen. Habe mir nach 3 Wochen jedoch bei euch wieder meine alte Farbe auf den Ansatz machen müssen. Vieleicht kann daran noch gearbeitet werden. 1st KIT WAS GOOD, BUT NEEDED ADJUSTMENTS...I loved the idea of having my hair color customized to ME! Especially since I can't get the color and tones I love from an off the shelf product. The first kit I got wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but understand customizing is a process. After that, things didn't go so well, but I'm not going to share the pot holes in the road just yet as there's a possibility that eSalon may recover and help me after all. If you love the idea of color in a bottle with your name on it, than you'll love this. I will say the quality of product is good. I didn't wind up with straw hair. I do believe the add on products really add up making the orders pricey. If I wanted to extra tint and highlight, I may as well go to a salon, right. I hope eSalon can make this better and work for me. And if you're not getting what you asked for, SPEAK UP, it's your money. Too orangeWith every order I have specifically stated I do not want any orange in my hair and with each order so far it has turned out orange instead of brunette. I will give it one more try and then I am giving up and going back to the salon. Jury’s still out for meThe process of applying the colour was straightforward and instructions easy to follow. The product came beautifully packaged. Initially I was pleased with the colour but felt after a few days the grey coverage of my roots faded very quickly. I asked for advice on Whether I should use the remaining root colour on my hair again but still wait on the response. I will try again on my second colour before deciding if I will continue using this service. Love the color, but I've lost so much hairThe color couldn't be more perfect and it makes me sad to have to give it up, but I've had significant hair loss from using the color and other esalon products. The first time I colored my hair I was pulling out chunks of hair and thought I'd left it on too long so it must have been my fault, so I continued to use it and every time I lose more hair. My forehead now has a noticeable line where I've lost about 1/2 inch of my hairline and my hair is noticeably thinner. DisappointingDuring lockdowns 1 and 2 I've used off the shelf colour while not being able to go to a salon. I wanted to try and lift the colour from the dark, vibrant red, closer to ginger, copper or orange that I've had at the salon. I selected a colour that should have been dark blonde/copper and put a note to say what I was aiming for, I also included photos of my current hair colour. Have just used my Esalon delivery and it is basically exactly the same colour as I already had. So I've paid 3x the price for the same result I could have had with off the shelf. All that has happened is my roots are now covered. It was also quite a complex process to apply the colour, segmenting hair, doing roots then using different colour for rest of hair, and taking the bottle into the shower. It was messy - with red dye my shower looked like a murder scene. And the dye was incredibly strongly smelling, my eyes were streaming even with a window open. And my hair now feels quite dry and doesn't have the high shine I get when it is coloured at the salon or using the off the shelf dye. Generally disappointed that something promising so much didn't deliver. Surprised!!I really like this product a lot more than I thought! I’m going on today to make my color a little darker, however this is no fault of Esalon. I had my hair highlighted before I first started this. My only concern is that this last time I did my hair I noticed some irritation burning feeling as my scalp is very sensitive. And my scalp itched from being so dry fir a couple weeks after Hoping I won’t have to stop due to this issue. But willing to try again & we’ll see with this next try. Did nothing.So I uploaded pictures of what I wanted. The esalon gal told me they would have me do a tint rinse (copper) then demi permanent THEN to order permanent hair dye a month later. I did not want to do this but I also did not want to do JUST Tint Rinse and walk around with crazy hair. Well stuff came in, I did the Tint Rinse (Copper) as esalon lady said to do. It did take out all the weird highlights and whatever madness my hair was doing, made my hair very soft. NEXT day did the Demi Permanent. LITERALLY DID NOT CHANGE MY HAIR AT ALL! NO change! So I made a new account ordered the Permanent hair in same color AND STILL NO FREAKING CHANGE! Love the idea but...Quiz/questions were okay. Packaging was cute and the kit arrived quickly. I was a little leary about the color actually being what I wanted because the color I really wanted was grayed out when it got to the final color screen on the quiz. Apparently the colorist didn’t think my hair could go that color even though it already pretty much is? So I choose the next closest color. I was even more hesitant when I saw they sent 15 volume bleach. I have natural red/strawberry blonde undertones and everyone knows redheads are hard to lift. I was again even more hesitant when I mixed the color but by this point I figured oh well, might as well just go for it....well, unfortunately it did nothing my roots didn’t lift at all and they are exactly the same color. So it looks like I will be making an appointment for the salon in a few weeks after all. Such a bummer! Not what I wanted at all... againThis color is orangey brown. I wanted ashy/ cool. Ever since I have been trying to do business with e-salon, I don’t feel like my desired color is being taken seriously. I have said the same exact thing in each of my requests. “I like my gray” which should tell the colorist that I like cool tones. I also said that I did not want a drastic change when my gray grew in (a slight change is okay).The color I picked was a cooler tone however the colorist told me I should have a different color because the one I chose would pull warmer Or brassier tones. I am very unhappy with esalon at this point. I had to spend $200 to get my hair slightly corrected so my gray could grow out again the first time and it looks like I am going to have to do it again! Major hair lossTook me a few months to tie it to this but it caused significant hair loss. I have canceled my subscription. I’ve used drug store brands for 20 years and never had hair loss like this. This week, I only have my normal amount of hair loss in the shower so it was definitely this product. Tried the tint rinse and it was worse! How do you mess up black?!?!I even left it in 5 min LONGER. Haven’t touched my hair in over 6 months. How do you mess up a blue black? Seriously, my hair is just darker brown in some spots and same color in others. I usually do some to tint my eyebrows those little hairs didn’t even change!!! And my hair feels dried out. After BOX DYE my hair looks flawless and feels soft. I never have time to do this as a new Mom with a difficult baby and no sleep, hence the 6 months. NEVER AGAIN, more upset about my valuable time being wasted. Had no energy to do it to begin with and it was a waste of time. First free time in 2 months down the drain. Makes no sense how the easiest color there is doesn’t come out right. And again my hair feels fried. DO NOT recommend. Thank God it wasn’t any other color and I don’t look any worse at least! Provided me with a color that did not cover my grays.The box came and everything looked great. I watched the videos, read everything they sent me and was ready to go. I did have two emails back and forth with the color specialist regarding the violet dark brown color I chose. She said if I was looking for a full purple color coverage than I need to go to a hair salon but if I was looking for a purple hue than we could move forward with the color selection. I did tell her I was looking for a violet hue but was concerned with covering my grays. I specifically asked if covering my grays with the chosen color would be a problem she never replied. Then another email came saying that we could move forward with my color selection and once again I asked about the gray coverage, again no response. I guess I should have know better. Copper RedI found the color to be a bit too much copper red, lacking a bit of light brown and golden highlights. After I applied a light brown with golden highlights it is beautiful ! I am not quite certain how to explain the color to you. As it is now.. I have a coppery-brown with gold highlights. I appear to have fuller head of hair and not translucent at the hairline. Coarse HairMy hair is thick and coarse. Because of this I might need a bit more product and usually have to leave it on a bit longer. I am not sure if this is why I notice fading and the gray showing up sooner than usual. I really like the color we have chosen and it looks great for a washing or two. I am going to continue with eSalon and experiment with putting more product around my temples and leaving it on longer. Works very well!Your product saved me from very long Snow White roots during this pandemic. It’s not difficult to use and I have very thick hair. Delivery is always on time. Instructions are clear. I think it would be easier to apply to someone else - if you have a relative or friend and could do each other’s hair. I have decided to stop using the product because the last time I somehow caught the end of the brush on the wall-mounted magnifying mirror that I must use to see anything up close and a small glob of dye ended up on the wall. Nothing I tried could remove the stain completely so I had to have the wall repainted. But for people with better vision, it is a great product with very pleasing results. Thank you. Wanted to love itI really wanted to love eSalon due to the custom color service, convenience and lower cost. Salons have been closed in CA since March and hairdressers are charging full price for preparing color for clients to apply at home. I have colored my hair myself on and off for many years now so applying the color wasn't an issue. I didn't like paying $120 for my color but missing all the pampering perks of being in the salon. After switching to eSalon, my hair started getting red/orange in color. Friends even asked if I had red hair! After lots of feedback to eSalon and at least 5 modifications in my base formula, it became clear to me that I could not reach the ashy hair color that I had before using eSalon and I was hoping to achieve so I am reverting back to the professional product from my stylist. Still work in progressTo "start over" I pulled the old color out and then put in the new formula. It is not exactly what I was looking for but may be due to pulling color out first. Change hair color.I want to you know that the hair color that I chose was dark in my hair. Didn’t work well in my hair. I think I’ll go for a lighter color for my hair. I took long to apply the hair color, because of COVID-19 my hairdresser’s business was close. Now the business is open. I told my hairdresser to do new hair cut for me. Now my hair is shorter. Color Improvements a Dud!Hello Esalon Just wanted to give some feedback on my most recent color experience with you! As you know I've been coloring my hair with your kits for a couple years now. My husband puts the color on for me and commented this time that it was kinda gooey. He said it didn't mix well and I thought maybe the heat during the shipping made it that way? I live in AZ. It arrived on the 10JUL and I got my mail each day. Just FYI. I kinda didn't pay much attention until I got in the shower to fill the container with water and lather it up in my hair. I looked in container and it was all gray and stuck in the container. It didn't mix up well with the water but I applied it anyway. Finished the rinse after lathering up for 2 min. Afterwards I looked in container again. It was all stuck in container at bottom and on sides. Not the typical caramel in color but a gray matter color. My hair isn't green or anything but not sure I like your improvements. I did take pictures of the bottom of bottle and on outside and you can see it in my pictures. I have been a satisfied customer for awhile but not sure it will continue with this product enhancement you supposedly made. Thanks and Hope to hear back from your team. poor customer serviceI'm writing this review on the customer service experience I had with esalon. I'm actually upset not to be able to use their products as they were very nice. I ordered my first product in May and was so happy with the results I signed up for the automatic plan. I received an email that my color was shipped June 17th & would receive updated shipping info 1-3 days later. When I did not, I reached out and was told "We are working very hard to ensure your order arrives as quickly and safely as possible. Due to a high volume of orders, carriers are experiencing difficulties updating their tracking information. We can confirm your order has been shipped on June 17, and should be delivered by July 1 latest. But please rest assured, your order can very well arrive anytime now. Unfortunately, delivery times are beyond our control as our carriers operate independently." I received an email June 30 asking "have you received your order." I found this odd since I was told July 1. As suggested by the email, I contacted customer service via the 1800 number. The woman was unapologetic after finding the last movement on my order was June 25th. So I said, I think I need to cancel my order. At this point she said ok, said I would receive an email and hung up. The email was minus the shipping - for an item I did not receive. So, I once again wrote customer service and explained the situation. Their response was, "Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately we do not refund for shipping you can see our return policy here.." When I explained I never received the product and would be forced to dispute with my CC and leave a review - he replied, "Thank you for your reply. Please proceed how you feel necessary." Hot roots!Since the salons are closed I thought I would try to do cover my grays that are coming in. I get my hair dyed my natural medium brown color. When it grows out you can only see the new grays because my stylist matches my color so, so perfectly. I worried that the eSalon color might come out too dark, if anything, but I wanted to get rid of my grays. I followed the instructions and I ended up with hot roots. I have an inch of light copper brown roots and don’t get it. You get can get hot roots when lightning your hair. I had them once when using box dye to lighten my hair years ago but I am not lighting my hair these days. I sent in a picture and detailed message. I turned off my subscription and they haven’t responded yet and if they do, I won’t accept a new formula to fix my hair. I’m sure there are happy customers who ended up loving their color, but I am not one of them. I will have to wait for my stylist to open up and she is will probably want to wring my neck. On a positive note, the color is shiny and my hair doesn’t feel like straw as some of the other reviews stated. Update: To the response team: No, nobody ever contacted me, the color expert didn’t ever reach out. I immediately sent in a ‘after’ picture and message and nobody contacted me. I turned off my subscription and that was that. Didn't seem to work very wellI chose medium blonde, which seemed very accurate for my hair color, and copper tones, which I've always wanted to try. Little darker than expected but great product.This is a little darker than I anticipated however this is a great product. It goes on easy, rinsed our easily and left my hair soft and undamaged. Naja, habe aufgrund der Werbung mehr erwartetHabe die Coloration getestet. Toll ist dass die Menge wirklich gut ausreicht selbst für mein sehr dickes/volles Haar. Ebenfalls bleibt an dem Set kein Wunsch offen, 2 Paar Handschuhe, 1 Pinsel, Anti Flecken Creme und Fleckentferner falls doch was daneben geht, Shampoo und Conditioner. Soweit alles toll. Großes Minus mache ich bei der Grauabdeckung. Obwohl ich die Farbe 10 Minuten länger als empfohlen angewendet habe, hat es die grauen Haare nicht komplett abgedeckt. Leider. Aaack!I was so excited to get this shipment. I waited until I had sufficient time so I wouldn't need to rush. Loved the instructions and the sticker to post them on the mirror (and then in the shower). I appreciated the stain protector and wipe for afterwards (I didn't use the latter). I thought the color would be great.................but it's not! The grays around my face are still there, although maybe a little less noticeable and even though I was super diligent about applying the root color in the back, it's still a dark brown..........and the red is what many OTC kits refer to as Copper Penny! It's hideous and I hate it. The overall color coverage is only meh......and I followed the instructions to the letter. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed and probably won't purchase this again. Shipping date is not accurateI am new using this company. I used to pay a lot of money on hair salons so when I heard and researched esalon I gave them a try. My first order came perfect and I have to say I really love it. After receiving my first order I scheduled my plan with shipping date June 1st. Since I didn't heard nothing about shipping status I sent an email and the response was that shipment takes 7-10 days, they charged my credit card on June 1st, but I need to wait almost 2 weeks for my order. I color my roots every 4 weeks and I was expecting to receive my order on time (like 3 days after my shipping date) but that would not happen. My roots are due for color and I am so dissapointed with this company. If I had known this, I would have scheduled an earlier shipping date. Good color but not what I wantedHair colors are good. I started with brown without the cooper look. I got great results then I wanted to go light brown to dirty blonde but got a cooper looking reddish instead. application brushI am happy with the color. Coverage of my gray roots is effective and I think the color is nice. However, I did not receive an application brush with my last purchase, despite providing feedback indicating that I use the brush with the bottle to apply the color. More gray coverageI would first recommend ordering your color a couple weeks before you want to color your hair. It took longer than expected getting my color. The root coverage I would give it a fair as I still had grey showing after I was done coloring my hair. The root color was not close to what I wanted. The rest of the hair color was a nice color and I am happy with that. Didn’t get what I wantedI was really excited to try out eSalon during the quarantine. I have been wanting to lighten my hair, but scared to do something dramatic. I thought using a dye might do the trick to lighten my hair one or two shades (natural dark brown hair). I honestly don’t know what I’m doing, and always prefer to go to a professional. I thought eSalon would do for now since they do a custom color, look at your pictures, and “listen” to what you want. The quiz was great, along with their customer service. The process of dying my hair was easy, and I followed the directions to the T. They say that the directions are tailored to your needs, but that wasn’t the case for me. My roots lightened but everything else stayed exactly the same. My directions were for somebody that had gray hair (I have none), which I thought was strange at first, but because their website said that the directions are specific to each customer, I thought I should follow them. In my comment when submitting the order, I specifically said I had no experience in haircolor and would appreciate their input in what I wanted to accomplish with my hair. Delayed transactionWhen first time ordering and receiving a suggested color, I disliked it. I requested my initial color which supposed to receive with no charge.
