Too DarkI asked for the color not to turn my hair orange or reddish and to be dark blond. What I got did turn my hair orangish red and it was much darker than I asked for. Nice, but faded quicklyIt was a lovely package and easy to use. I especially liked the separated roots application, although this did mean there was a lot of waste product. After the colour was done it looked great, but very quickly my grey hair were visible and after a couple of weeks the colour has totally faded. I do use a colour protection shampoo and conditioner and only wash my hair a couple of times per week so I did not expect it to fade so quickly. Long lasting colorthe main complaint i have is only on my most recent order. The directions were different. After coloring and setting for the wait time, it said to put water in the bottle of dye and get in shower to add it to my hair. I was so asphyxiated by fumes in the shower! Bad scene!I received my color box in mid-May but just colored yesterday May 24. I was surprised to see the box didn’t include the rat tail brush for application of the color since I used the brush/bowl technique before & it worked out ok. I checked the instructions/ contents list of items and no brush. Since I only had the bottle this time I tried that and what a MESS! My hair is thick and below shoulder length. I could not get a good part just using bottle tip - which is blunt. The parts become more random as I went, my hair got goopy with color and tangled, and color got on areas it should not have. I had to rub the color in at the roots and hope it would cover the gray as needed and not the previous color. My thick, long hair is not easy to color by myself at best. This was an especially difficult process with the bottle only and a very frustrating & disappointing experience. If you no longer include the brush as part of the package, I want to know that because I need it to successfully apply color. Way Too Much Red!!I should have known when I saw the word copper, this was not the right color for me. It has Way tooo much red in it, in fact I didn't want any red... I picked a medium blonde. Maybe its the more gray my hair turns, the more red highlights come out. I'm going to give it one more try with adjustment of color. I like the whole kit plan though. Do not useIt literally turned my hair orange. I sent 3 pictures of my hair and explained what I wanted - no red tones, cool ash tones, & to get rid of brassiness in my highlighted hair. This turned my hair literally bright orange, I have never had this happened to me before with box dye. I wish I had never used this product. Directions were not right for meI just finished coloring my hair with my first e salon kit. The directions said for me to color my roots first and let it sit for 15 minutes and then color the ends and let them sit for 10. I did not even let the color sit on my roots for the full 15 minutes and they came out WAY darker than the rest of my hair. Also, I do not think 10 minutes is enough for the ends because I still have some brassiness. Color was completely different than my orderI ordered medium blond and my hair after application is medium red/brown!! It’s not even close to what I selected. Grey coverage not as good as hoped forI was thrilled to get my eSalon order. Having gone to salons for over 20 years and spending literally thousands of dollars, I couldn’t wait to start. I knew how to color my own hair, but also watched and read all the materials to ensure the best results. Unfortunately my greys are color resistant, so the color did not penetrate well and faded quickly, even using high quality shampoo for color treated hair. Please, no more bottle application, always with a brush!This was my second order from esalon.com. The first time I was sent the same set, but the dye was to be applied with the brush. I was very happy and the color came out great. This order came with the bottle applicator. Maybe it works for a professional, but not for an amateur who needs to apply it all by herself. An extremely messy, cruel, and frustrating experience! As the result, the color was not even applied evenly and I am still left with grey spots. I plan to give esalon.com another chance. Color was okay. So much promise but just okay.First thing, they indicated that they’re going to send a brush with the kit, and that never happened. No brush with the kit. Good thing they included gloves. It’s like my kit was packed in a hurry and I get that. I just didn’t like that they say too much nice things about the the product but didn’t hold up to their word. There’s not much difference really with just using retail brand hair color.. The color and texture of my hair is the same. If there are changes, they’re barely noticeable. There’s so much promise on the product but it is just okay. I will be going back to my organic hair color. Supposed to be soft black with golden highlightsAfter doing step 1, went to step 2, I have 3ft of hair that was covered with that product for the 5 min. Went to step 3 in the shower and followed directions. Now all my hair is like a dark/ med brown with exception of a 6 inch long section of black in towards the ends. Spilled productPart of the chemicals were spilled open into the box when I opened it. I couldn’t even read the instructions bc they were covered in black dye. Not for MeEven though the color was supposedly matched with a photo it made my hair white. Because of COVOID19 I could not go to my salon. I contacted my hairdresser with a photo and she dropped color off in my mailbox with instructions. Now I have an appointment for Thursday and will need corrective color and have my normal color. very frustrating and disappointed. Also, good look canceling. I did not realize they were going to keep mailing me and charging my card. I know this was my fault for not reading the fine print. I found my way here by trying to cancel my account which is not easy. I have a box of this they shipped in May that has not been touched. Go to the drugstore, you will have better results.Nothing in this kit is different then a drugstore kit except it was actually significantly worse. I went from having a natural cool brown with slightly oxidized tips (which was discussed. I didn't mind the tips being a bit off as I would trim them anyways) to full oxidized hair in a off ginger brown. I ordered a custom hair colour for ash blonde so I guess I expected either same result or hopefully better but got MUCH MUCH worse. I hate a gut feeling when I looked at the kit that this was going to be bad and the instructions of putting it on your roots 15 mins before the rest of your hair when you are lightening seems really, really ill advised when it is on natural hair. I believe this is a click bait rip off that just is trying to rebrand at home box dye at a much steeper price. Savior during quarantineI was pleased with how easy to use the eSalon color was. I also felt like the color was a good match to my usual hair color. However, I did notice that the gray coverage was not as complete as what I am used to with my stylist and the color also began to fade after about a week. It’s been just over two weeks since I colored it (with a little help from my 15 year old daughter) and I am really happy that our salon is opening back up! I feel like I will need a re-color in two weeks or less. Overall, I would definitely use it again in a pinch. Confusing order process, unresponsive communication, no answer to questions...I struggled with the ordering process given I wanted to refresh my dark blonde highlights where roots were growing in dark brown. I wasn't sure whether I needed a highlight kit or a roots kit and how to order one versus the other. The ordering process only allowed me to select 2 shades lighter than my natural hair color. I reached out with my questions and received no reply. When I finally took the gamble and placed an order, it appeared as "roots only" color. I sent in my photo and detailed description of my goal, and again asked the question if this was the right solution for my purpose (renewing my light highlights into my dark roots). I have no grey. Again, I received no response. I did eventually receive a generic email from my "personal stylist" but no reply from my response to that either. Eventually my kit came in the mail and I applied it by the instructions... Easy enough to follow the directions, and the quality of the product seems good from a hair health perspective... but it completely did NOT accomplish my stated and restated goal. The color is slightly darker than my natural color at the roots, So I spent a lot of time & effort and some money to accomplish nothing... in fact I took a small step back in darkening the hair I wanted to lighten. At least I did not damage anything! In short, if I was a hair professional I might have ordered better and known what I needed... but isn't this the purpose of the product, to bring hair color to non professionals and guide them to getting what they need? Color was okI ordered the dark brown copper and I it does not stop bleeding out red pigmentation. I don't know if its the brand or the color, perhaps my hair does not take well to the copper color. I like the quality of the product, hair feels great, nice shine to it, but I hope to try a different color. Not worth itI really wanted to like this but I was sadly disappointed. Firstly I sent a photo and asked for assistance with the color. Instead they sent me the one I picked which too dark and harsh for my skin tone. It looks terrible. Secondly on the 2nd day after coloring I developed a reaction on my neck and behind my ears. Not Quite What I Was Hoping ForThe hair color went in fine and did not leave my hair dry. However, the color was not quite what I had asked for and each week it just keeps getting lighter. My hair is several shades lighter than when it was first dyed; something that has never happened to me with previous hair dye. I always expect some change the first few washings but with each washing, my hair continues to lighten. Don't BotherI ordered this product with high hopes for covering my gray roots. I received the product two weeks after my order was processed. ( I am practically in the same Zip Code). The color was a good match. It lasted for 10 days. I called Esalon and had a long chat with a colorist who tweaked the formula and said a replacement would be sent out immediately. Two weeks later-no color. When I called to find out what had happened, I was told they planned to send the replacement out at the next scheduled interval , whenever that was. The order was then RE-placed, and I waited again. It's now 10 days later; the order was picked up by the post office, but still has not arrived. Customer service said, fine do you want a refund? Probably should have used boxed dye insteadI was expecting the medium ash pearl brown to actually be a lighter brown color, but it's extremely dark on my hair. Maybe it wasn't meant for blonde hair, but my light brown roots have a dark reddish color now. I received a sample of shampoo and conditioner which the brand seemed expensive, and claimed to be ultra moisturizing and great for hair. Well, not for mine. It was a pretty drying product. The conditioner from L'Oréal Feria products saves lives though, highly recommend. Ultimately I wanted to go close to my natural hair color - then I end up with a near black color and very dry hair. Too dark and no redI’m an auburn redhead, My first eSalon color was very nice, but I wanted it a bit brighter with more red. I consulted my colorist and, for the second order, I said I wanted a brighter, redder color, and asked her to look at my photos. She sent me dark brown and copper with no red. This would not have been too terrible if I had only colored my roots. But, as per the instructions, I poured the leftover dye over my ends. The result is dark brown hair with no red at all, The ends are almost black. Color did not blend from roots to ends.When coloring my roots, the color saturated very well and I was pleased with the overall color itself. However, it did not blend throughout my hair (after I followed all of the application and blending instructions scrupulously - and this is not my first rodeo). When reordering, I tried to order a new color (slightly different shade) by attempting leaving comments as directed on the website so the colorists would be alerted to this problem. But the website did not pick up my comments, or even allow me to make any comments or adjustments to my order. So I thought I'd try the same color again, just in case it was me, not the color. Nope, exact same result. I tried again (multiple times over several weeks) to update my order to get my color adjusted - website never worked. Today I called and spoke to Jen. She told me that unless I am on a color plan, I can NOT make any adjustments to my color. I will note that there is nothing on the website that says this. Now, I guess I have to figure out how to clear out an account, so I can start completely over? Because she said my problem was my search history/cookies. For the record, I've not only attempted to do the same function about 7 different times, I've used two different computers on two completely separate systems. Pretty sure it's not that - and I told her this, and got silence. And talking to Jen was a complete exercise in frustration for so many reasons in addition to this. However, I'll leave that for a discussion with anyone representing the company if they decide to call me back. Bottom line, not the worst color I've ever received, but one of the worst on-line experiences in terms of non-responsiveness of both the site and the staff. Awful business practicesI purchased what I thought was a one time color order to get me through the covid19 stay at home order but was surprised to get a notice from PayPal of another shipment. I logged on and canceled the subscription right away and called to try to get the charges reversed since it took 2 WEEKS to receive my initial color order but was told they could not reverse the charges or stop the order. PLEASE do not be sucked in by these poor business practices. I'll never use this service again and will never recommend this company to others. Darker than my natural colour, too warm for my skin. No reply from ColouristThe colour was different from what I was expecting. I was told the colour I chosen was much lighter than my natural colour, and I was suggested to go to a darker shade, which I accepted. The colourist sent me an email with the colour suggestion which I wasn't happy with so I wrote him back straight away to ask for a few adjustments, but he never replied. In fact I wrote him twice. The colour he chosen was shipped anyway and being in Lockdown with very long roots I didn't have a choice so I used it anyway. the colour turned out to not be as bad, but one or 2 shades darker than my natural colour and too warm for my skin colour. My skin is olive so warm shades don't suit me. I tried to adjust my colour BEFORE it was shipped but no response. I was so hopeful I wouldn't have t go back to hairdresser saloon, where I spend a fortune and a good chunk of my day.... But I guess this is why we pay the extra money, so you can actually speak to a professional and have a proper personalised service.....Hope my colour will be adjusted on next order otherwise I'll just have to be patient and go back to my hairdresser as soon as the quarantine is over. 1 of 1 people found this review helpful. ammonia and sulfiteI thought that I was receiving Madison Reed products. I cannot use products with ammonia or sulfites. I had used Madison Reed without any problems that I purchased at Ulta. The product that I received from eSalon caused an allergic reaction with hives requiring the use of rescue allergy medications. I also had scabs on my head for a few days.
