Disappointed.I really wanted to like this idea, but after my third use of the dye on my roots, I’m very disappointed. The dye leaves a heavy waxy residue on my hair, I had to wash it six times as my hair is very thick. I had to concentrate on small pieces and really scrub it to get it out and I felt like it was taking the dye out of my hair. TerribleHi guys, been using you for years. I emailed to adjust my colour to a dark brown with a hint of red. I even wrote back to confirm and i just did my hair, and it is florescent red. No joke, I look like halloween bad hair dye from an 80's movie! I am horribly disappointed but I also need this fixed. I cannot go to work with florescent hair. Way too darkThe product was way too dark and has ruined my hair. I got medium brown which is what I get in typical box dyes and it went so dark I am not sure how I will get it back to normal. Poor productI have used esalon on & off for a few years. My previous shipment, the color didn't have any shine. So I asked for a little darker color. My most recent color received I used this morning. Followed the directions exactly. While trying to rinse out, it seemed like it wasn't coming out, but yet the water was running clear. My hair was so gummy. Tried drying it. It just got worse. Plus my color was not darker, it was a strawberry blonde. Not what I requested. The color was just dull. No shine. So just rinsed out my hair, but still gummy. Washed it with shampoo 2 more times. Still had that gummy feeling but not as bad. Went & bought a clarifying shampoo & washed twice. Finally no gummy feeling. I immediately stopped my shipments from you. Did you change your formula? I will not purchase your product again. InconsitantI follow the coloring instructions to the T and it always seems that my hair looks obviously home colored afterward. Not good for my hairWhile the color is great, I have found the product itself to be quite damaging. My hair is so stripped feeling and bone dry after that I can't even get a pick through it w/o a lot of breakage. I've been doing my roots at home for 20 years, so I've certainly tried different brands. sludgey crisco-like substance left on my scalpI've ordered a color set twice now, and this was basically strike 3 for me. Each time this happened before I blamed myself, assuming I hadn't followed directions or something. But I followed them to the letter this time and I had the same issue I've had both times I dyed my hair using the same product previously. Somehow, I've washed my hair 3x and I can still run my fingers through it and come up with white chunks of something sticky in my fingernails. I even mentioned that I had this issue before ordering the dye and the stylist acknowledged that it had been reported by other customers and because of this esalon was going to change the formula. I assumed it had already been changed, but apparently not. It's such a shame, the color is really perfect and I absolutely love the tint rinse but it's not worth dealing with the after effects of using this dye. It takes weeks to get whatever this is out of my hair and ultimately I end up fading the color trying to do so. Bad feelingI tend to go between getting my hair done professionally and doing it at home for 10+ years. I've never had a problem with coloring my hair either way. I enjoyed the simple instructions the kit came with and the fact that they included a second set because I have very long hair. HowEVER.... when trying to rinse it out per the instructions, it did NOT wash out. The water ran clear, before the shampoo/conditioner and after the shampoo/conditioner. My hair was left feeling gummy, sticky, waxy, and just generally gross in every way possible. I couldn't brush it out, couldn't dry it. I could barely get it into a bun or ponytail. I waited 24 hours before washing it again and while most of the yucky feeling came out, it's still there and I am in NO way impressed. The color is also much darker than I anticipated. I have NEVER had my hair feel this way after getting it colored in a salon or at home. I gave it two stars because I enjoyed the instructions and customization, even though I think my color is darker than i expected. Worst customer serviceI received my order and when I applied it the color was the previous color. I was upset since I did go into the salon to have them match the color. I emailed them and got a sarcastic email back. I called and was told they send the correct order. What would I like them to do. When asked to speak to a manager I was told she was busy and she would tell me the same thing. Rude customer service... Fell victim to the gunky gummy residueI spent a ridiculous amount of time rinsing this product out of my hair and it still didn’t feel clean. Used the enclosed shampoo and conditioner. I’ve been coloring my own hair for 25 years and I followed these directions precisely. Tried to dry my hair and it had such a gunky, gummy residue that was greasy and I couldn’t get a brush through my hair. Let it dry and it has this greasy residue when I touch my hair. Got back into shower and shampooed twice, then used conditioner. Got out of shower and it’s almost nearly as bad. Was supposed to go out for my husband’s birthday tonight and I’m embarrassed at how awful my hair looks and feels right now. Really ruins everything. Will NOT use this product again. Extremely disappointedI had high hopes considering this was supposed to be customized colour. I don't understand why it looks nothing like the picture I chose it's much darker on the places I applied second bottle, I'm actually super depressed about it. Washing Color OutI have been ordering from ESalon for 3 years now. I love the concept and the color. However, it is difficult to wash th color out and leaves a sticky film on my hair, for 3 or more days, even after diligently trying to wash it out several times. I also referred my sister and a friend who had even more trouble then me - it might have to do with the water they use. However, we all agree the color and concept is awesome but it is so frustrating trying to wash it out. Therefore I am now too canceling my account. If you ever improve this aspect of the product I will definitely rejoin and I am sure my sister and friend would as well. Please keep me posted. Uneven colorReally beautiful packaging and I was so exited to use it, however even though I paid the rush fee it took longer than expected to be delivered. The color left a brassy red tint to my hair even after the toner that came with the highlighting kit. Color Results not as expectedMy natural hair color went from healthy soft blond to full head of shockingly white. I wanted to add color back to soften the white to more of my natural color and sent a picture of my white hair. I used my custom esalon as instructed and it turned out pink. Wrong color did not color rootsThey mixed too much copper and the sample test did not change hair color at all especially to darkest roots. Makes my hair a grease ballI’ve done esalon 3 times now and the same things happens every time and no one can explain it to me. Basically the color takes about 5 days to wash out of my hair. I have extremely thick hair and after leaving on my hair for 30 min as instructed...only using half to 3/4 of the bottle of color...my hair looks like I slathered it in oil. It’s heavy, hard to brush, and I have to wash it twice a day and it’s still greasy. I’ve had no real help from esalon. On top of that it doesn’t really lighten my hair which is what I have been going for. The esalon team says it can’t send me any lighter color, but I’m basically coloring my hair the same color it is. UnderwhelmingI was really underwhelmed by the color--the first time I used it, I didn't notice a change in my hair's color at ALL. I though perhaps user error, and the next shipment autoshipped, and I decided to give it a go again, but leave it on a bit longer. Same lack if result. I went to cancel, and was offered a free kit and asked to send a note describing what I found lacking so they could adjust my color, and potentially contact me to fine tune it. I said very clearly I was looking for a more noticeable color result. No one contacted me, and a new kit was sent out that was apparently augmented according to my feedback. I used it, followed the directions precisely aaaaaannnndd no discernable color change again. The only change was how it (as the last kits had) left the texture of my hair feeling a bit drier and rougher. No shine boost, no color, nada. The greys don’t seem to accept the colour ...Not sure what’s wrong but the colour put on my grey/white hair is coming out bright orange compared to the rest which is a nicer dark copper that I can live with. I’ve tried this twice and I can’t continue with this discrepancy as it just looks like over processed hair at the top and around my hairline at the front. Also, since it is so far from what I asked for in the first place, my roots are showing in a week to ten days and I’m just not going to colour my hair that often. So I’ll be taking a little time to reconsider whether or not I want to continue with the hastle especially if I’m not particularly happy with the results. What changed?I've been using your product for a few years now. Getting the same color each time. I don't know what happened this time, but I just colored my hair 2 days ago and I already have grays. When I went to rinse the coloring out of my hair, it was A MESS! Thick and goopy on my scalp. Took me 20 minutes just to rinse it out. And now it looks like crap already. I had to purchase it because it already shipped but it didn’t.Somehow I ended up in automatic purchase which I didn’t opt into. Probably won't continue usingI've used this product twice now and the color is fine. What is really hard to take is how incredibly messy it is. It stains everything it touches and it's fairly liquid so it does splatter a lot. Skin (even with blocker), porcelain, floors, pillows ... anything and everything. I have to be VIGILANT about cleaning as I'm going. 6 weeks after, it was still bleeding out of my hair and the roots that it touched up became reddish. Color did not staySo the first time I used this product it worked great all pieces were covered and the color stayed. I couldnt be happier. This time was just touch up and did not cover like the first time my greys were still showing right after application and I followed the instructions like a pro. I'm used to dying my hair myself and covering every spot. This is the first time greys did not take to black and the color did not stay. Don't know what happenedHello, I'm hoping there's a way to put a photograph with this review. I've been using eSalon for several years. My last application was on November 26, 2018, the day before traveling for Thanksgiving. I lost an incredible amount of hair as I was rinsing out the shampoo. It was coming out from the root. It was alarming. As a result, I'll be discontinuing my eSalon orders. Not angry. I know things can happen. Maybe the time I left it in was longer than usual. But after using it for so many years, I felt like I had this down. Anyway, there's no point in taking the risk of another experience like this at $20 a pop. Product burned my scalp.The color came out well, but my scalp was in awful shape for weeks. After it finally healed, there was flaking for weeks. There were a couple places where it wasn't just superficial. During a strand test, I had no reaction. I didn't react to a swab on my arm, but once this stuff was on my head, 10 minutes in, there was tingling and it just got worse until I had to rinse early. Loved the color and coverage! However....Loved the coverage and color but immediately discontinued my monthly plan, due to the fact that when washing out the dye, it made my hair one big mass ball of the dryest straw ever! My once silky fine hair, felt like a thick mass of straw! The conditioner helped but it took a weeks of deep treatments to make it feel like my own hair again. Too dark based on previous commentsMy initial problem when trying to color my 51 year old husband's hair was finding something that brought him back to his natural dark sandy blond/light brown hair color instead of all-over gray. With my own mixes, it kept coming out with a ton of red, and I could never capture a natural looking hue. We've been close with the eSalon blends, but still finding too much red. This last blend has still not gotten rid of the hot red/gold tones, but now seems to be a level darker than what we had in the 2 previous mixes. Blonde with light highlitesLove the color. The highlites are perfect but it is a little harsh on my hair. In all fairness it may be because I bring the high lites to the end of each strand rather than just the roots. Just OKI really didn't like the very strong smell of the product. I'm used to using ammonia-free colors. Because my hair is somewhat fragile, I think this product might be too strong for me. Color is very natural looking. I just used it so I will see how it wears. This went wrong for meI wanted to love this hair color, but this was very disappointing to me. When I initially chose a color, I could not see a light blond available in the choices that were offered to me. I don't know why, because I know now that there IS one. I chose the lightest one in that selection, which was medium blond. It was too dark, and too red. Since I have already used it, I can't correct my color. I don't like the color, but was told that I can't change it because a new hair color will only change natural hair (not previously colored hair). I liked the idea of having "personalized" color, but did not find it very personal. The process of applying the color is the same (nerve-wracking) process I have always used with drugstore color- trying to apply it to only new growth all over, including the back of my head. Ugh. It may be less damaging than drugstore color- I can't tell. Washing it out is a little strange as it seems to be thick and gel-like, requiring that you rub it off your scalp before you use the shampoo. I have bad hair- damaged, fine and thin dishwater blond. I had hope to find help using this hair color, but did not. RatingThis is the second time ive used the product, and both times it covers well but it lesves my scalp extremely greasy and the ends are really dry. I have followed the instructions as directed and had to wash my hair two extra times to get the greasiness out. Not what I expecetedI was hoping to eliminate my 2 step process of lightening and then adding red semi permanent but with my choice of red, we needed to still continue a 2 step process. The colorist was extremely helpful and informative. She lightened my roots and then added a red color boost formula on the ends. The color boost red was much redder than the roots and the next day when my hair was fully dry, you can see the line of demarcation between the 2 shades of red. The overall boost color also didn't last more than 10 days and I only shampoo weekly and cowash every 2-3 days. No color change - at allI finally got around to try the custom color I ordered at the end of October. Even though I love the fact that the product has no ammonia smell, it did absolutely nothing for me! I followed the instructions to the t, yet I got no color change. At all. Color change flopI have had good results in the past with this company, except I never get enough conditioner for my hair length. This time I wanted to switch to a vibrant ginger for the fall/winter. I received two colors, one for my roots and one for my ends. The roots ended up a nice ginger color. However, the ends ended up almost black with a ginger tinge in certain light.
