First order wasn’t so great..My experience wasn’t the greatest, but I’m very glad plans can be tweaked for all kinds of reasons and orders are very custom. After my first application, the color took incredibly long to rinse out and stop bleeding. For two days, it looked great and beautiful and healthy. Afterward, for an unknown reason, my hair felt so dry and brittle even while using color safe shampoo and conditioner. I then had to do three (!!) deep conditioning treatments to get my hair back to feeling as smooth as before. I came on here today to end my plan as it just wasn’t up to my expectations, but they offered to give me a new kit to make up for the last one. Customer supportPreviously made a comment to customer support about shampoo & condintioner packets are not enough for long hair. When I oriniginally signed up, I stated I had long hair. I have received larger pkts once and the reason I requested them again. Unforuanetly, the response I received was they are crediting my next shipment to include additional packets but in the future I need to purchase them. Please let me say that I really like the convenience of home delivery. But I pay twice what I used to pay then I receive the response I spoke of and makes me wonder why they even asked for my hair lenght in the beginning if they didn't intend to provide enough of all supplies. I like the product but I'm not sure how much longer I will continue. If you hair is short, you will really like the product and will have ample product. Not So HappyI have been an Esalon customer for a few years and am noticing that the product has become continually more watery with each shipment. The product is so watery now that it is very hard to apply and it runs down my head and face continually during the 30 minute processing time. Not goodWhile I should have checked what ‘surprise pricing’ I would receive after my first purchase, I wasn’t expecting an online hair colour to be the same price as it costs for my stylist to make a home visit. Also, the bigger issue is this does not cover grey, which is why I colour my hair in the first place. I would essentially need to recolour my roots every 1-2 weeks with this product, which I’m not happy to do. I now have 2 additional boxes of colour going into the rubbish - what a waste :( While the service is speedy, the product is not good for what my needs are. Not impressedI gave the color that I chose 3 tries. The last two, I requested for less brassiness. Unfortunately, my hair is still brassy with the adjustments. I used the color enhancing mask to help diminish this but it is not helping the tone either. Disappointed- residue on hair won't come offI ordered my kit; went through the online questions, posted a photo of myself etc. I specified in the notes that I like my hair to be bright, more ginger and less red. My dye colour was set as copper blonde. What I've actually got is a dark browny Auburn. My hair is dull, not vibrant and tonal like it is with off the shelf color. It's not even shiny and golden ginger in sunlight. It seems to have almost brown in it. But its dull and lifeless. On top of that, I applied the dye, followed the instructions and used the timer... I then did the shine step where you fill the bottle of remaining ends dye with water and use it to rinse your hair before washing out. It hasn't added shine nor broken down any residue (which is talked about in the instructions but not something I've ever come across in 17 years of dying my hair). I washed my hair out using their shampoo and my normal one as it didnt feel or look clean. I then conditioned with their conditioner. This left my hair feeling plasticky. I towelled off my hair and then added leave in conditioner to the ends (which I always do) my hair felt strange, like it was stuck together or had too much hair gel in it or something. I tried to blow dry my hair and it just felt like a semi flexible solidly stuck together mess...like insulated cable! I had to immediately go and try to wash my hair again. I shampooed twice and conditioned once, spent extra time rinsing too, all with my normal products. I could not get the crown area clean. I styled my hair and went out as I was in a rush. There was just this bit at the back that looked super greasy/ full of product and felt sticky and awful once it was dry. next morning and some of my hair is looking dry af like straw . The middle and back looks lank and greasy and messy. I've washed again today (that's 3 washes since dye yesterday) and it STILL looks greasy/ full of product (it isnt). Too darkSpite of having filled out all the info and uploaded a photo on natural light, my color customization was too dark. I did not like the results because although colored my grey I now look older. It is darker than I use to have in a salon. I was quite clear that I would like to have more red added yet got more brown. Instead of having a dark brown with red highlights, my hair is awfully BLACK. It's okMy kit did not contain the classic shampoo, it had 2 classic conditioners in it. I followed instructions step by step, but my roots did not change color. The bottom half of my hair, especially where i had balayage highlights, dyed to the expected color. The new branding makes me sadI’ve been a long time customer. I have always loved the color and the customer service is spot on. But the new branding feels cheap. The labels look like they were printed on my old printer from about 10 years ago. The new shampoo and conditioner is just like any generic color brand you get at the drug store. What happened to the Heart Lock it? The old packaging felt unique and cool. I feel like I got sent a box of Clairol. I’m not leaving you because your product is solid. Very disappointedThis is the fourth kit I have used. I am a medium golden brown and esalon has, up to this point, done a great job matching my color and covering my gray. I use the kit each time first on my roots and finish all over, following the directions explicitly. This time my golden brown is gone and darkest monochromatic brown (almost black) is what I am left with. I am so very disappointed because esalon’s formulation is the first color that really stays in my hair - so that means I am really stuck with this color for quite some time. AllergicHello. Loved your color BUT I’m afraid I’m allergic to your color products. I did do the skin test and it was positive. I used the color anyways cuz I was desperate to try. But it looks like this will not work for me. UNLESS you can come up with something I won’t have a reaction to. I may just have to go grey natural. Can you still help me? New Hair ColorWe used the color kit exactly as the instructions said. I chose a light brown. I had some grey roots and they turned golden, but the rest of the color was fine. Mixed feelingsThe kit and directions were easy to follow. The end color is OK. It's a little darker than I like, but I took a risk and went a little out of my comfort zone so that's on me. My biggest complaint is that I'm several days out and I'm still losing color in the shower. I would think it would have settled by now. Poor color coverage on my roots. Excessive hair loss.This was my first time trying esalon, after using a store brand for many years to touch up my roots in between salon visits. The shipped product had plenty of color product to apply which was great, however, after leaving the color on for the amount of time advised in the instructions, I still had grey showing through the color on my roots. Also, I noticed an excessive amount of hair in my comb and brush after I combed my hair while wet, and then used my normal hair dryer and a brush to dry and style. DisappintedDisappointed I bought his color in Jan and let it set b/c I had recently boxed colored my hair. Just did it yesterday and my hair is near black. Really disappointed I’m getting another box on auto ship when your emails are so sneaky you cant tell it’s going to ship until its too late. Your shipping emails should have a subject line, otherwise it looks just like your spam emails. The color is probably what I asked for at first (no red tone which is nice) but now I’m stuck with black hair and another black color coming in the mail. I have had some serious problems with eSalon hair color.Both times that I tried eSalon hair dye (once in salon and once at home), the dye faded really quickly - within a week or two - and my hair became less manageable each time. I even bought and used only eSalon shampoo and conditioner for months, but I could barely run a brush through my hair at the roots after I showered. When I dyed my hair at home, I followed the instructions to a T, but manageability got worse after that application. I have since purchased other shampoo / conditioner products to try and remove the dye and help my hair become more manageable again... it is a slow process, and I've never had this much trouble with my hair in my life. I was greatly disappointed - I really hoped that eSalon would be the magical 'salon quality' product I was looking for, since I just don't have the time to sit for hours in a salon. Bad serviceAfter not getting the first color completely right, esalon credited me on my account to get another one since the first one didn't turn out. It was horrible, I had to immediately redye it again. After emailing someone about the 2nd one, I was ignored about my needs and wants in the email exchange and was told I was basically getting sent a root only application anyways, besides the fact. So it was altogether a waste of my money, and if they mess your hair color up the first time, they won't just give you another one. Its not 100% color happiness guaranteed. I want to love itI love the idea of esalon. Customized hair color that is delivered to you. Here is what I found "good" about this product. Everything you need for home coloring is provided. The color was rich and actually did not fade. My problems: While the color was rich and very shiny , it was not the color I wanted. I wanted light ash brown. It was far too red for me. I tried 3 adjustments to the color and it actually ended worse than the original color. To be fair I did not speak with a representative but conveyed my dissatifaction via email. I may have continued to try to tweak the color if I had not developed such a bad scalp reaction to the hair color . It started with dryness of both the hair and scalp and ended with scalp breakouts, eczema type flaking and scaling, and hair loss. Changed my colorMy first recommended color was too dark. I really didn’t care for it, and colored over it within a week with A L’Oréal Superior grey coverage med blonde color. I thought I’d try a lighter color, so I just tried it. The color is much better. I followed the directions exactly, but it doesn’t cover my gray as thoroughly as the L’Oréal product does. Too dark, not enough red.This is the same problem I have with going to salons for coloring. I can say exactly what color I use and what works, but I'm second-guessed on my color. It then comes out far too dark with not enough red. It's either mixed wrong or the wrong developer is used and I'm stuck with a darker color for several weeks until I can do it again. Not good enoughI’ve had some problems with my colour and the lovely staff at esalon have tried to resolve them but it’s not been good enough. I wasn’t going to write a negative review but they keep emailing me asking me to review, so I will. The first colour was great but it burned a bit on my scalp. After I said I wanted to lighten up my colour they said they couldn’t help me but could provide me with a lighter colour for my roots to blend out the darker colour. I was skeptical as to whether this would work as my roots are only a bit lighter than my colour anyway but they offered to send a root retouch for free so I agreed. It didn’t make a lot of difference to my colour and the burning sensation was worse so I got in touch to let them know. They switched my colour to demi-permanent and I paid £20 with delivery for the next root kit. This is very expensive for what you get but I felt beholden to them as I had gotten the free one last time. The demi-permanent colour had no effect, my natural roots didn’t soak up the colour at all. The instructions were confusing too as it said not to put any of the colour on my ends or they would go darker, but also to put the remaining colour on my ends near the end of the processing time! After the failed colour, I bought a box of nice and easy for less than a fiver and it did the job nicely with no side effects. Not what I expectedAfter reading so many great reviews, I decided to buy this product. First of all it is not easy to put the colour on your hair, then the smell of ammonia is quite strong, usually it isn't because my hair are dark and I use a dark colour. The colour itself seems right, slightly darker than what I wanted but fine. The biggest problem was to get it off my head. A nightmare! I used so much shampoo but still I could feel the product on my scalps. After drying my hair, I could still notice something gummy in my fingernail. You might end up with an expensive color correction at SalonI asked for Dark Blond. Color faded to frizzy orange in 6 weeks, using Matrix color safe shampoo system. Tried again, similar results. Third time, I asked them to neutralize the red. Color was Neutral Dark Blonde for a week, but faded to reddish dark blond. Going more and more reddish. Apparently the most expensive color to color correct for at the salon. Can't tweet the color enough for me. Poor coverageI have seen eSalon on numerous social media profiles and they always seem to have positive feedback, so I thought that I would give them a try. I was extremely disappointed with the results. I followed every step of their ordering process, even sending them "before" picture of my hair so that they could help me with my color selection. I received my kit in the mail in a timely manner and was excited to see my results. The instructions were clearly explained, although the process was much messier than other hair dyes I have used in the past. I applied the color and timed every step as directed. DisappointedPretty color, not worth it. Dyed it a month ago and to this day, I see color washing out every time I shampoo - even with expensive, sulfate-free, color protecting products. Awful and impossible to wash outThe process of dying the hair was OK but trying to wash it out was pretty much impossible, it left my hair tangled and made it feel like I had oatmeal mixed with glue in my hair for weeks, it looked horribly oily and unwashed no matter what shampoo I tried or how much I shampooed it. Anyone who touched my hair commented on how weird it felt for about two weeks after I used this product. Never againI am delayed in writing this review because I was just getting on line to cancel my association with your company before you send me any more hair coloring. I have been getting my coloring from you for over two years and have even used you to put high lights in. However, the last batch of coloring you sent me nearly ruined my hair. I could not rinse the coloring out. I follow instructions to the letter. However, when the water hit my colored hair my hair bunched up into greasy dread locks. I rinsed until the water ran cold and the shampoo did not lather up and did not break up the clumps of dread locks. I finally just shampooed my hair 3 times with bed head until I got the color out. Then I gave it 3 days rest and put swimmer shampoo in my hair and set in a steam room then washed my hair and conditioned and conditioned. I have not died my hair again since February but it is still very dry and it is a good thing I have a lot of it because I am still loosing a lot of hair with every shampoo. It is past time to get my hair done again and I will have to go to a professional to have that done because now my hair has a different texture to it. No changeMy hair shade is medium brown and the shade I ordered was a medium ash brown. I knew my color wouldn’t drastically change, but my hair is the exact same color as before. I did a strand test and my color never changed. Worse at home kit I've ever tried!This is literally the worst at home kit I've tried. I wouldn't have minded the mess and hassle it took to do all the bloody steps but then to not even get colour pay off anywhere near the colour I selected from the available options. Better off sticking to the drugstore box dyes! I'm so disappointed and to top it all off my hair didn't even smell nice at the end like other at home kits! Bad colorI had light brown hair, sent a picture for light brown, and got a color that made my hair at least two shades darker. I wrote and asked if it could be replaced with a color I liked before, but never got a response. I don't think I'll order again. In addition I've now washed it three times with esalon color safe products and the color's washing out really uneaven. I'm thinking I'm not going to order again. TerribleI followed the instructions to a ‘T’. However, my hair was left thick and mat-like afterwards; it wouldn’t dry. The colour did not take at the roots. Color too dark but hair felt healthyThe color came out too dark. I would recommend if you are already coloring your hair to let the colorist know what you have been using and send a picture of your hair color that you prefer. Mine came out too dark because I said that my natural color is medium brown (which it is, but I color my hair light/med copper).
