I have to say that I like the overall outcome of the eSalon product. However, I did not like the smell! It came across as a harsh product by the smell and felt like I was putting a lot of chemicals on my head (probably was :(). I did not experience this with Madison Reed whose product was pleasant to smell. Now as to the color, much prefer eSalon. Madison Reed's product continued to wash out with every shampoo even though it was a permanent color. I have washed my hair for the first time since coloring with eSalon and there wasn't even a tint of color that came out of my hair :). Within 2-3 weeks of coloring with Madison Reed, I was a washed out version of my original color. Both seemed to cover gray well. I'm going to give eSalon another try and have decided to try the highlighting kit next time around.

The color that was sent to me was very close to what I was looking for. The only problem was as I washed my hair after coloring, it got a little too red. Taking some of the red out will make it perfect.

This is my second time ever coloring my hair. The first time was grocery store box color that only covered my gray hair for a few weeks. I do not have a lot of grays, but this color did cover them all. I definitely noticed a buildup that was difficult to wash out. I was in a hurry so I ended up leaving it wet and not washing it again until the next day. I got most of it out the second wash with a little bit of a greasy feel left. However, I do love the look and would purchase again.

The hair mid shaft has a ring around my entire head that is lighter ( my old highlights) so my root and ends match well but it didn’t cover the highlights which was fine at first not as noticeable and looked just like color variations in the same shade but after about 2 weeks the color started to fade and I noticed the ring or band that that was lighter . No big deal my hair didn’t fall out it ! Lol my gray is pretty hard to cover too so it started to show after about 2~ 3 weeks . I do shampoo daily and shower often twice a day but only shampoo 1 time . So if we need to adjust formula- I’m game . What ever the pro recommends .

I love the color and it covered the gray! The only issue I had was getting the color in areas I can not see so it's best to have some one who can help you.

I have a box of the old color that was too red, can I return it? I won't ever use it. I really love what you did with my new color; more brunette and less copper/red ! Even my husband noticed. Because my hair is so short my daughter used small pieces of sandwhich twist ties to separate my hair, it worked great but I looked like one of the Little Rascels. Please let me know what I can do with old color. If I can't return it maybe you can make up a color to add to it to fade the copper and red and bring out the brunette. I love this product. Thanks for everything ! You are great!

They color is so-so, but my hair feels like wax afterwards. The shampoo probably takes some of it out, but the conditioner makes it even worse! Don't plan on leaving your house the day you color your hair. UPDATE: I received directions from eSalon on how to get the color all out of my hair, and the problem I had before has been fixed. The color this time is one of the best I have ever had. I didn't do such a great job with Bottle #2, but that is my fault. I have asked to have that bottle shipped to me again so I can do better with it next time.
Overall I would give 5 stars for color and grey coverage. Very nice!

I absolutely LOVE my custom colour!!
I started going grey at 21. Before that I had naturally black hair, but it wasn’t jet black, it was a ‘soft black’ like the colour of charcoal. But black off-the-shelf box dyes ALWAYS turned my hair jet black which looked unnatural and harsh. I’m almost completely deaf so going to a hair salon is very frustrating for me as I have to endure a constantly misheard and repetitive conversation with the hairdresser or sit there in an awkward silence. One time I went to a hairdresser I went with a photo of my natural soft black hair and even then it came out jet black (having paid £50).
This hair dye got me back to my natural colour and it wasn’t too distressing on my natural ringlets. But I was seriously impressed with the colour. I FINALLY have my ‘light black’ hair again.
I’m a 29 year old male so if there are any guys reading this, I strongly recommend this brand if you are going grey and are undecided on dying your hair or are too self conscious to buy a dye in a shop/go to a hairdresser.
It has given me an advantage at work too. At 29 years old, I’ve just recently passed the age at which most guys begin going grey/bald. When I’m in a meeting at work, usually a female member of staff compliments my black curly hair but then a few male staff usually chime in with how lucky I am to still have “a full head of hair that is t going grey” :D

I started coloring my hair myself 2 yrs ago. My sister recommended Garnier so I used it too. My gray is all at the front. Within several days I could always see a gray line forming...drove me nuts😫 This doesn’t happen with eSalon! Some how the color “sticks” much better. And the videos made all the diff in my self confidence!!!

The color you get is nice, however it can be messy, I would suggest having a pro do it, the tips you receive with one visit isn't enough. Again nothing wrong with the color itself.

If you are not happy with your color, they will change it. If you are not ready to dye your hair, you can cancel a month until you are ready. They have so many other hair products that are wonderful.

The colour is just right. The right amount of golden which is a good thing as unfortunately the colour has started to fade after the second wash but have left my greys with a sun-kissed golden colour.

I like that there is more color mixture so there's plenty to do even a long hair style. It covered my gray very well. I'm waiting to see how it lasts.
I wish there were a shower cap in the package to cover your hair while processing. They include an application brush and I don't see the point in that. If someone wants that they would have a bowl and brush. You sure don't need to receive one with every box, that's just wasteful because all those unneeded brushes are going in the trash.

The colour is very natural and covers grey hair perfectly. The product doesn't stain much on skin and it is easy to use. The only drawback is that it is quite irritating on my skull skin.

My colour had been gaining different tones and behaviours during the recent hot Spring and Summer here in the UK so adjusting my custom hair colour to take into consideration the influence of sun and sea was a very positive decision.
I feel the team listened to what I was attempting to portray in an email as to my worries and dislike of the current colour and sent me the most fabulous adjustments in August; unfortunately I did not use until recently as I wanted to avoid colouring in the extreme heat we have been having and to give my hair a 'rest'.
The brassy look has all but disappeared, my grey never really disappears but with the new colour it has 'toned' in to a better effect, making my hair look 'natural' and my accepting the aging process with grace!

I think the strawberry blonde color is rich and beautiful. I followed the directions to the letter but have to admit doing just the roots first is difficult for me especially in the back of my head. I have a few places which I did not get covered properly so I will have to work harder to ensure I do not miss any roots. Thinking of having my sister do the roots next time. Will perfect the process but first I need to see how this color lasts over the next four weeks.

I loved the color when I first applied my formula, but was disappointed when I washed it for the first time. The color was considerably lighter. I tried to order the rinse but it was out of stock.

The color covered all the gray. It was a little darker than I would have preferred, overall I am happy with the results. There was a little more ammonia smell than I like. Simple process. Maybe put 2 of the color remover pads in the package. One just barely got all the spots on my skin.

Im not happy with my color still and it's been an adjustment trying to get the color I requested. My color is darker than what my original color was, which I don't like!. However, esalon was willing to send me two free shipments of color to accommodate the color change...even though the color is still wrong! Way darker. I do appreciate that at least. I also like that esalon color does cover my grey hair longer and better than store bought brand lorel I used before esalon. I will continue to try esalon for that main reason and hopefully they can get the color correct. I do feel since the 100% satisfaction guarantee is stated, I had hoped they would honor that and they don't!. I was told the incorrect color match is not esalon fault as it is a gradual process to try and get the correct color im asking for???

I did the online quiz and uploaded a picture. Was contacted that it was recommended I go no more than 2 shades darker . I was good with just doing two shades. So glad I didn’t go any darker. It’s really dark. I like it but the whole family was shocked.

I love it. I only gave it 4 stars because I wish eSalon would include a very rich conditioner option with the color in addition to the 2 conditioner/shampoo packages. Also, please provide a paper not plastic option for a mat and try to reduce packaging.
Also separate from the review, eSalon team, could you please provide a conditioner for people losing hair that need to color their hair.

Love my new color! I went with the Medium Brown (Pearly Copper), it's so rich in color. When the sun hits it the copper shines through. Unfortunately it didn't cover completely on my roots, too coppery. So I contacted my colorist and she adjusted my color. Can't wait for the new color to arrive.

I’ve been using eSalon for over two years. Once you do it once or twice, the actual dying process is quite simple. I love the color and I’ve found that when I used another dye in a pinch it just doesn’t look as good or as saturated. I’ve also found that besides the slight downside of a little more stains for a few days from doing the dye yourself, I like the results as much or even better than when a stylist colors my hair. The box comes with gloves, stain guard, stain remover wipes, plus shampoo/conditioner so you’re really ready to go at any time. I’ve probably had six boxes and honestly, I would not use another product. Unless I decide to drastically bleach/change my hair and require a stylist, I will continue with eSalon. I consider the price of eSalon to be absolutely worth and maybe even underpriced....The added benefit of having someone who actually reviews and makes decisions on your hair color needs is a huge perk compared to traditionally dying at home. You should absolutely do this! Live your best hair life.

After trying many brands to color my resistant greys, my search led me back to eSalon, after some years, to give it another try. I am seeking a color that will give me at least 4-5 weeks of coverage, however that does not seem do-able. I just can't seem to find a brand that lasts at least 3 weeks before I see my grey friends again!!! However, I was satisfied with the initial color coverage. After rinsing what felt like glue out of my hair, my hair was shiny and the color was dark brown as purchased - not a grey in sight. (I put some photos in my account.) I am African American and my strands are thick, wavy & curly. After coloring, my strands did not become dry and I had no disturbance in the texture, nor any breakage. But the real test was the longevity. I colored on a Wednesday, and by the following Monday my grey friends were slightly glistening at my front hairline. I wanted to give it a some time before I did a review to see how slow or fast the color would perform and I can say that by today, day 15, all of the roots are showing from temple to temple and across my scalp- so I'm back to my normal scenario where permanent color only last 2weeks. I will give eSalon another try because it didn't dry out my hair and I felt my hair had a shine/gloss I always seek (I prefer high shine with the least amount of product). So it got the job done. I'll try eSalon again because I like the shine it provided. Otherwise it performs, for me, the same as most other high brand colors (Wella, Schwartzkopft, Kenra, Matrix) and lasts about the same.

My first try. Red can be a difficult color because it can easily be too brassy, too blonde, or just really unnatural looking. I admit that I did not leave it on as long as recommended for fear of that. My color is beautiful and I will be a little bolder next time!

Color is good, Bright and vibrant. I just wish it was a little thicker formula. I tend to have it drip while trying to touch up my color. It will run down my face a bit while it processes. I also wish it was free shipping because I could go to sallys beauty supply and get professional color for a lower price.

The colour seem fine it's just when you wash it out with the shampoo and conditioner it leaves your hair feeling like you've got a ton of lard on it and it never dries so you end up have to wash it and wash it again has something changed with the products?

For those of us who have colored our hair for decades, it can be a real challenge to get the color we want without damaging our hair. eSalon definitely meets both of those goals. In addition, it's user-friendly.
However, I'm not getting the gray coverage that I do with other products. Maybe that's because of the kinder-gentler formula? In any case, that is one pretty major con amongst all the pros.

I've been using E-salon for a number of years and think the product is great. My only problem with the color is that it doesn't take along my hairline even with the suggestions offered. This past year the packaging was changed. There are times when I can't open the color bottle and have to ask for help. They now have 2 boxes...one for gloves and one for shampoo, etc. Why was this done? The shampoo and conditioner only fit folded over in the new shorter box, whereas previously everything fit fine together.

I like the color very much and it was easy to apply. I was a little disappointed that it was only one bottle of color instead of two with my recurrent order (when previously it was two for the same price). I had to stretch it a bit for my extra long hair, but it turned out okay. I'll keep ordering for sure.

Yesterday made the third time that I have used esalon with MAJOR confidence. I have colored my hair for probably 20 years. Buying the same color, company, I never knew what my color would turn out to be....and believe me it has turned pretty orange before.
Since using esalon and seing how I can rely on the color looking so awesome, I have colored it twice and did the hightlights for the very first time....all three times 2 hours before I leave for church! Now you tell me, is the MAJOR confidence or what??!!?? AND all three times my hair was awesome!
Does esalon cost more than color you get at Walmart, Walgreens, CVS? Yes, it does.
Is it more than worth it? YES, IT IS!!!!!!!!

Costumer support was great. My shipment arrived in a timely manner and the price was also fair. I love having the option to communicate freely with my color specialist when needed. However, the color was much much much darker than I had anticipated. I expected an lighter auburn color and the results were more like a dark chocolate.

Covered my gray hair better than Madison Reed. No reddish cast. Just darker than I expected. I wish it came with a plastic cap to wear while the color is setting. It was easy to use. The last step wear you apply diluted product to all the hair made a big mess in the shower!

The first few days the water ran orange with color still being rinsed out. I truly thought that was normal. The fade issue was so awful that I colored my every 3 weeks. I was over using mass produced hair color.
I decided I wanted to try a little bit different shade of red. I couldn’t find a color I liked so I decided to try eSalon. I am very pale and wanted a more golden coppery shade, a less intense red. I selected Dark Blonde (Copper Golden). I wasn’t too sure but my mom and I loved the color itself. I was a bit apprehensive as my hair had been dark for so many years. My color consultant called me, we discussed my allergy issues and I went for it. I’m so glad they don’t send you latex gloves! I have a life-threatening allergy to latex. I just wish they have gloves in larger sizes.
Well, I love my color. It looks amazing. My hair is in better condition now than it has been in a long time. The color lasts for a month. Also, it actually rinses out really well. I don’t have orange rinse water for a week every time I shower anymore! I’m so glad that I tried eSalon. It was a fantastic decision for me.

It was very kind to have 2 colors to s ye the grey and than for the rest of my hair. But this was not needed due to as said before I have thinning short hair and this could of been accomplished with 1 color vil.
I would like to discontinue the shipments at this time due to me being out of town for 3 months. Thank you

To start off, I just have to say how much I love the color! It's shiny, and really beautiful! However, as a hairstylist, I have to say the application process was more tedious for me to do on myself with the recommended brush/bowl method. The ends treatment was also interesting. It was so wet and splashed all over my bathroom! Was a bit annoying cleaning it off the walls, hence my 4 star rating. Aside from that, it turned out nicely! After feeling REALLY dry and brittle cleaning the color out, the shampoo and conditioner made it come to life again. Although, I wish there was a bit more of the shampoo and conditioner, my hair is just past my shoulders so I had to use more of my own color conditioner, but otherwise, this is a great product with a lovely end result! Can't wait to get the root touch up for next month!

I'd like to go a little lighter, if possible. Also, there was a minor error in packing- I received 2 shampoos instead of 1 conditioner/1 shampoo in my kit.

I felt like it covered my gray better than before.....and it was good before. Not sure if there were changes to the product or if I did a better job of applying, but I like the results.

I just used my personalized colors, and I absolutely LOVE the color. It was not what I expected, based on the choices I had in the questionnaire, but I was so torn between getting back to my natural red hair or continuing with the aubergine-ish color that I really liked, I just decided to let eSalon make me what they would. I had three colors...White, red and aubergine, and was too embarrassed to even send a photo!
Well, my personal 'Kathi in a Bottle', somehow brought all my color under control. just enough violet to be fun, but a red that is as close to my original color of my youth, and full coverage of white.
My hair was in bad condition due to picking up the wrong product TWICE, and now my hair feels so soft and healthy with no frizz. Of course, I'll be watching closely to see how it goes after a few days, but I expect good things!
Needless to say, so far I am thrilled with the product, color, speed of delivery and the ease of putting in an oder. Highly recommended!

I have pretty stubborn grey hair along the part and near the ears. It covers well and since it comes back every 6 weeks whether I spend $100s at the salon or have this sent and do it myself, this is a way better deal economically. I miss my highlights but it just wasn't financially worth it to keep going to the salon!

An excellent product worth paying a little more for. I just wanted something to mask the greys rather than radically alter my hair colour and this does just that. At the hair salon my stylist always insisted on adding a lot of red to the brown to ‘warm it up.’ To me it just looked brassy and unnatural. This has far less red mixed in and gives a far superior result. Just wish e-salon would bring out some dark caramel highlights for brown hair now. Hint, hint. LOL.

I like the way everything is set up and you create a custom color but my color was too dark. I wanted a lighter color. Other than that it’s easy to use and doesn’t burn or have such a strong odor.

Today I used the custom hair color from eSalon. Color came out great but noticed that some hair near the scalp were not dyed (remained gray). I made sure the area was covered. I will continue to reorder. Previously had salon coloring.

Need to tone down the red a bit and a little lighter on the ash. Otherwise it was good. Easy to use. The prep was easy. The stain remover worked great.

I loved the copper color but after about 3 washes it faded really fast and its not very copper anymore its more red brown now. I wish the colors lasted longer.

Grey shows back up too quickly. And I don't have that much. Color was good, maybe a bit more brown. But after 2 weeks, usually I can go 4-6 weeks between coloring. I may start having it done by someone.
