Really wanted to continue my subscription but...I went to the ESalon in Los Angeles and loved getting my color done with the colorist. She was great, the color was great although my hair felt a little heavy afterwards, and I loved getting the kits sent to me. I got my first kit at home and meticulously followed the directions. I don’t know if it is because I live in a city with extremely hard water or what but the color turned into a waxy, sticky mess in my hair that would not go away after several shampoos. I could not brush my hair or even dry it properly. I reached far back into my brain to think about what could restore my hair - chemistry courses!! Oil binds with oil so I massaged my hair in olive oil for 10 to 15 minutes. It was a messy process too but it enabled me to finally wash the waxy sticky residue out of my hair. I thought this might have been an anomaly so I tried again 4 weeks later and the same thing happened. Not what I was expectingI was expecting the color to be darker. It said medium brown, but there wasnt much of a difference from my natural dark blonde hair. It was also very coppery which I wasnt expecting. On the plus side, the directions were easy to follow and my hair feels very soft. Something has changedI've always really loved my esalon hair colour. It had very little odor and I always loved the way my hair felt even right after a colour (which was a first for me). For the past several colours, I have noticed a change. The colour feels really waxy and is really difficult to rinse off after a colour. I don't love the way it feels as I used to. I hope that things go back the way they were or I will have to look for a better product. I ordered to dark I will need to lighten a shade or so.I received the color I requested. The color brightness on my computer must have been off. The brown I ordered was darker than I like. Not Even Close - HATE IT!I was looking for a reddish brown color and my color turned out a very dark brown (almost black) which looks awful on me. No red in this AT ALL - not even in the sun. I went through the questionnaire process and chose the color I wanted and even included pictures. I would have achieved better results (and I have) had I purchased a color off the shelf at the grocery store. I have colored my hair many times myself in the past and had no problem achieving the color I wanted. Now I used a colorist and she has never had an issue getting me to the color I wanted. She was ill and had to cancel my appointment and I couldn't get in for 4 more weeks so I took a chance on this. Lesson learned. HATE IT! 0 of 0 people found this review helpful. Did you? |

Second Attempt - A Bit Better than FirstHello Jennifer, Thank you for reformulating my initial color. I asked for better gray coverage. I compared the online notes from the initial color vs. the reformulation and both sets of notes (that I can see online) are identical. Should I expect to see a difference in the notes that refers to the better gray coverage? Regarding the results, this second time I used the bottle to apply the haircolor and not the brush/bowl method which I used the first time. I like the bottle application method better. After following the instructions, waiting the 40 minutes, then applying the leftover color to the ends during the rinse process, I am still experiencing a much darker result over the entire head than desired. I am not sure what additional adjustments can be made to the formula, the shampoo, the conditioner or to the method of application. What do you suggest?
