Practice makes perfect!I have dyed my hair three times using e-Salon. I am a natural redhead trying to cover lots of grays. I also have zero talent with hair. My first attempt was very embarrassing. However, I purchased the accessories so I was committed to try again to cover the cost. First attempt--wrong color with lots of red and orange brassy spots. Yuck! I believe the brassy spots were caused by the step of pouring the remaining stuff over your head. I was focused on being sure I got it all over my head and on cleaning up what looked like a mass murder scene on my white tiles. I rushed to the store to buy teal shampoo and kind of hid from people for attempt one. Attempt two--customer service helped resolve color issue and I was pleased with the color (and cost-savings). On shower step, I quickly poured it on and then rinsed it out. (White tiles came clean after first attempt. So I didn't stress.)No brassy spots-but as my hair grew out, it looked like I had little bald spots. (gray-white hair on white skin looks like miniature bald spots.) Tried third attempt a little quicker than usual interval. Third attempt--figured out I was missing tiny little spots that didn't show until my hair grew. I fixed that problem by going over roots more closely.) Color (and quality of dye job) look great. I am very pleased with this attempt! And I love the cost-savings and consistency of the color. Perfect color match!Although I've been coloring my hair since the 1980s, I had never done it myself. But four months after my last salon visit, I was so tired of staring at inches of my white hair every day that I decided to spring for the custom color set. Unfortunately, I didn't really understand how to section my hair. (Wish I had realized that this website has a good how-to video.) Also, I just wasn't up to doing more than the face-framing area and both sides of my part. The good news: A perfect color match with my previously colored hair. The bad news was my own fault: I missed lots of areas, so that I wound up with white streaks amid the copper-brown. But the net effect is much, much better, and if I go the do-it-yourself route again, I'll do a better job of sectioning.
