First Time Color 7-4-2019 - Darkest BrownI happened to come across eSalon while browsing on my computer last week. I've been coloring my hair for the past 50 years and was curious about this site. I had my hair professionally colored last year and was not impressed - especially with the $80 price tag. So, when I saw this site I was very interested. Imagine a hair salon-quality service delivered right to my door! I ordered my first kit for $10 and it arrived on time and in good shape. I was very impressed with the personalization of the kit. I read a bunch of one-star reviews and quite a few 4-5 star reviews and had questions which were answered by eSalon stylists (Kaelin and Sarah). Their answers were contradictory (cream vs gel-based color formula) and it was confirmed to me that they are now selling a cream-based formula as their gel-based formula was not well-received due to reports of sticky residue in the hair after coloring (as a result of not following directions properly). In my kit, the directions told me to color my hair and then take the leftover product, mix it with water and then massage "vigorously" into my scalp for 2-3 minutes, rinse thoroughly, shampoo and then condition. The product I received was cream-based and not gel-based, and the directions provided with my kit were incorrect. I think the gel-based formula requires the additional step of vigorous massaging and shampooing, not the cream-based. So, I emailed both Sarah and Kaelin asking what I should do and, since it's July 4th today, decided to take the plunge and color my hair without my answer. I applied the color, waited 25 minutes, rinsed thoroughly with warm water and then conditioned. I tried mixing the leftover product with water (in the plastic bottle), applying to my scalp and rubbing it in but decided it was unnecessary & stopped massaging after about 20 seconds. Love it!Roots and ends actually are the same color for once!! Great all over coverage and I absolutely love this shade! Amazing. Love my color. I've been using since January and I love how they adjust the color month to month at my request and until its perfect!! Only took a couple minor adjustments to get exactly what I want!!!
