Color came out great, application instructions didn't work as well as planned.I've been coloring my hair or having it colored for over 20 years (since I was 14!) so I know my way around a bottle of developer. I found the kit to be incredibly helpful and LOVED that it came with stain guard, two sets of gloves, a good quality brush, and stain remover cloth... even a sticker to hold the instructions up on my mirror! Color on my hair pulls extremely orange-red, and most colorists have to try 1-2 times with my hair in order to get all that brassiness out of even ash-neutral colors. Esalon seems to have gotten it right first try! There was no red tinge to my color, which was a huge improvement over drug store brands. I was also very pleased that leaving the color on for 30 minutes covered my extremely stubborn grays, which usually require a 45-minute process at the salon. AND, the color didn't irritate my scalp like salon color. The only two drawbacks were the odor & the instructions. First, the odor was extreme... more overpowering than anything I've tried in the drugstore aisle and salon. I have an enormous bathroom so it wasn't a ventilation issue... the color just seemed legitimately noxious. My eyes and nose burned when I first began mixing it on the countertop... I almost didn't use the color because I feared it would irritate my skin. But once the color was mixed, it was fine with the bathroom fan on and double doors open. The second issue was instructions. My instructions suggested applying at the roots only and then adding water to the leftover color and massaging into my ends for 2-3 minutes. I was a little skeptical about this but did it anyway, and I'm glad I did. I think the water/massage trick helped blend what would have been a pretty serious line of demarcation where the old color met the new. I wish I would have ignored the instructions in this case and applied the color from root to tip on this very first color. Oh well... Love the color quality and gray hair coverage it gives meThis is my 2nd bottle of color and my 2nd time to fall in love with this brand. Love everything about it. The packaging is wonderful and convenient. The smell is actually pleasant and not at all obtrusive. It washes out and my hair is so shiny and beautiful. Just NowHi, my name is Robyn Carpenter and I have had my e salon coloring kit since February 2018 and have never used it. One I was afraid it would be too dark and two I didn't want to color my whole head just put in streaks here an there. Well nobody wanted to help me do that so I just never used it.......Until...... May 3, 2018 and I deceided to do it myself. I read the instructions, mixed my color, shook it vigorously, put on my gloves and from that point didn't do anything the instructions said. I did a lot of the back at the neckline and then at the front of the face. Where I knew there was lots of gray I did more but basicly I went north and south in lines and rubbed it in as I went. I let it set for 20 minutes and then washed it out. It was nice. Without shocking anyone I would appear almost as normal only with just a touch of minimal dark. Hardly noticeable. Well this morning I thought to do this again because I didn't used the whole bottle of mixture, so I vigorously shook it and applied it to all of my hair this time. Including doing double in the grayest of areas. I waited 20 minutes and washed, dried and styled my hair. There is gray that just isn't going to cover and the color is so pretty. Yes it is still mixed with a little gray and I like that but the hair at the front of my face just looks lighter and not colored still gray. I have always heard gray hair is hard to color and has a mind of it's own. But truly I am very happy with the color my color man/gal chose for me. Residue left over after coloringHello. I tried these products four different times in hopes that the residue that is left over would not be in the next mixture. Sadly to say that I just colored my hair two weeks ago and it took three washing for the strange residue to be out of my hair and my GREY HAIR came back after three washings. I am done. Didn't lastMaybe my hair is growing too fast, but it seems like the grey came back after 2 weeks. Now, it's bad. I wash my hair every other day, with color safe product. For this next order, instead of a demi, can I get it in permanent? Also, I need to lighten up my hair, it's been died very dark brown, almost black with semi permanent from the store a few months ago. I see that the golden brown I'm getting from you is taking, but still see a huge split in between the 2.
