Messed up colorI'm unsure if there was a misunderstanding in the labs and I got the wrong color or what. However I was supposed to get a Ash brown with a pearl hue, my hair is so dark in color it's almost black. My hair was a medium/ light brown with a sort of blonde golden balayage throughout. I'm not even sure how this happened, I read the instructions in entirety twice before starting, and then again during application. I went as far as to use a timer to make sure I applied, and that I left everything on correctly for times. Too DarkI have previously requested a lighter color because once processed the original color was too dark; the lighter color I received last time was better however this time it was too dark again. Very DisappointedI was so excited to try this experience, I was very open as I have dyed my hair for many years. I thought this was going to be a different experience...and it was. First, I loved the packaging. It was feminine and made me feel like I was really going to be treating myself to a great hair coloring experience. The smell of the hair dye is overwhelmingly strong. I had to go outside at one point as it was difficult to breathe. Keep in mind I was in a large bathroom, door open and the ventilation was on. My eyes watered so badly at one point I had to have my husband get me a cool wet washcloth and guide me outside! Once the color was washed out and the hair was dry...My hair was very much two different colors!!! I lighter orangish-burgundy color at the roots and a very dark burgundy on the length on my hair. Product changed!When the box changed, so did the product. I have been using eSalon for a long time and have done the process the same way many times and had excellent results and many positive comments about my color. However, the last two shipments since the box change have been waxy, smelly, brassy, and left my hair feeling course. More difficult to use than other coloring systemsI was very excited to get a more customized color at home. The color I received turned out way more red as well as darker than the color I saw and chose on the website. The application was similar to other systems I have used at home, but when it came to rinsing out the color and finishing up- it was a nightmare. I initially took my time in rinsing out the color after seeing numerous reviews complaining about the sticky, waxy residue and the suggestions to make sure to get all the color out of the hair. I spent about 3 times as long rinsing out my hair as I normally would for any other color and I STILL ended up with that awful residue. I ended up having to re-wash my hair twice to get it to be manageable and I still feel a sticky stiffness in my hair. My hair ended up looking way more frizzy and dull than with other color systems as well. The smell of the color while rinsing it out was AWFUL! It was even hard to breathe it was so strong. I am not sure I would go through the process again even if it was the most perfect color in the world. Not For MeI think it's a good product for short hair or shoulder length hair but NOT long hair. I had a terrible time trying to dye my hair.
